My "Throw Back Thursday" fly this week the Silver Hilton
The Silver Hilton is a classic summer steelhead pattern. Use it on the Deschutes, Umpqua, Santiam, Kalama, Willamette and many others up and down the West Coast all summer long.
The fly was designed by Henry Hilton for the Klamath and Trinity rivers in California during the 1940’s. Hilton was a cook at a cookhouse in the town of Korbel located on the Mad River.

smaller and more natural. This one will slim down a bit when wet and have a VERY fishy profile.

Single that comes in just a touch under 7". I fished flies just like this (but closer to 8-9"....exact same innards) for several years and caught a ton of fish on them, so I know they work. This version utilizes far less material and is even easier to cast. I could probably cast this on a stout 6wt, super easy on virtually any 7wt if smallies are your jam....even easier on a 10wt if Faux Muskies (I actually like that more than 'tiger muskies') are your thing.

Is the tail on that bad boy a Whiting Rooster feather or? That barring is impressive.

I think so....It's a full saddle that I think I grabbed from Deschutes Angler a couple of years ago when they had a few really good ones for my needs. But honestly, I feel like now that I know precisely what I'm looking for, I tend to like to handle everything (bucktail if I could, but I got that dialed with where I get it from).

Another single....If any serious musky (or faux musky) angler is worth their salt, they'd have a little black or black and red fly in their box.

this lil fella will swim quite nicely....tiny little 7" Faux Musky pattern....

10:58 at night and I almost forgot. Here's my "Throw Back Thursday" fly this week
Kaufmanns Coal Car
The pattern for this fly, originated by Randall Kaufmann, came from the fine book by Dick Stewart and Farrow Allen, Flies for Steelhead. They write that Randall Kaufmann designed the Coal Car as a darker variation of his Freight Train. It's most effective on dark and overcast days. The fly has a good reputation as a dark day fly, with just enough color to attract the fishes attention.

Nice, I wear the trout sized (#10) pattern on my old beat up Sage ball cap when I'm fishing.

Love the look of your Spey style.

a'ight, a couple of very minor tweaks on this Halloween Faux Musky fly. I added a touch of Nayat in the tail to give it a little more movement when creeped along. I did also add a slightly heavier counterbalance weight so that it naturally rights it's self slightly faster. Other than that, same platform and tweaked the color blend for the head too.....just for aesthetics.
