    Coffee talk

The green beans keep for a year or more no problem. Roasted coffee starts to detectably deteriorate, to me, after a couple weeks. How you store it can affect this. A good airtight fully opaque storage container helps maintain freshness— UV and O2 are your enemies. I usually have a batch mostly...

    Coffee talk

You might be surprised. When you’re roasting, you get a whole spectrum of aromas from when the coffee is green and just starting to off gas, all the way to wherever you are when you finish your roast, and honestly to me none of those levels of roasting beans smell near as good as the...

I used to buy and enjoy Chock Full o' Nuts medium roast back in the day. And the Beavis in me still thinks the name is funny, huh, huhuh.

    Coffee talk

If you are satisfied with the quality and character of the coffee you find at the grocery store, then no, home roasting is not an economically viable pastime. If you are dissatisfied with the coffee options at the grocery store and spend the big bucks that they charge for the good stuff which is...

    NFR World Cup

Yeah that wasn’t the one I meant but that one was questionable to me too, but even after the replay for that one. In the replay with the animated line allegedly showing the offside position for the call, the defender’s elbow was sticking over the line too! That was an interesting match up of...

Well they did just Spain’s goal disallowed for what looked like nothing to me.

Spain’s shots just got better and better and Martinez just kept making incredible saves.

    Marblemount to Rockport

It’s been a few since I’ve done it, but I think if you float straight through it’s no more than 2.5 maybe 3 hours if you tried to go slowly without actually stopping, and the sketchiest thing I recall is some funky swirly/boily hydraulics where the Cascade comes in, just don’t be caught...

Heck, even motionless can work. I’ve hooked fish with flies sitting on the bottom while I was doing something else.

Aaand blueberry muffins for breakfast. Kids said they taste just like the cobbler. Which is fair.

That’s what I posted. I don’t like “the kitchn” and prefer serious eats so that’s what I linked. They explain the origin of the recipe in the text at the link. Serious eats ingredients: Thekitchn ingredients:

It’s essentially tuna puttanesca without the Kalamata olives. I bet that’s good. I like to do a blond puttanesca with fish—no tomato sauce, maybe use some capers and castelvetrano olives and extra olive oil.

    Quick trip to the lake.

I’m into it! If we can somehow fit the dog, too, that’s a bonus in my book. Even if it means we leave @SilverFly at the launch. 😉

    Quick trip to the lake.

If it is the one I think, it’s in between us; maybe we should meet up there to fish one day. We can ask @Paul_ how it’s done.

    Summer trout games

Yeah they hurt like the dickens. We do need the binoculars to see what stinging, swarming insect it is so we can select the appropriate gear. Bald faced hornet nests are best poked with a 5 weight, aerial yellowjackets I like a 4 weight, but for the ground nesters you actually want a stiff 7 or...
