Thought I'd put this up to the general population page

How many of us enjoy indicator fishing in a Stillwater setting?

Too boring or a chess match?

Watching grass grow is no fun either...
If you're indicator fishing and it results in the same number of tugs on the line as just watching grass grow, then I suggest you may be doing it wrong and might want to change things up.

If you don't like tugs on the line, or you don't like tugs on the line when there's a little floaty thing in the mix, well, I can't help you there. :)

I once had a Lab that noticed my friends GSP had a much better nose than her.

She would hunt with me, but always kept an eye on the GSP. Once he started to get birdy, she would run over and flush the bird that he was working.

I have a friend that ONLY fishes with bobbers. I usually fish the entire lake with various flies and different depth lines around the lake.

BUT the entire time I keep one eye on my friend and how he is doing with his bobbers.

At some point, when he starts out fishing me with his bobber I run over anchor next to him and start catching fish.

He is an outstanding bobber fisherman. I have not seen anyone better, but when its not working its not working. He is so stubborn, or maybe addicted to bobber fishing that he hardly ever tries another technique. I think he needs a 12 step program, but the first step in admitting the addiction.

On the other hand, I don't waste my time bobber fishing during slow periods. I do enjoy it when it is working.

I think I will just let him suffer with his addiction.

I used to hate it, but one of my buddies was really effective at it and got me into it. It is at the forefront of my bag of tricks but weather, water conditions and fly patterns dictate usage. Especially effective in rough water. Fished yesterday ,1/2 of the fish netted were on the indicator. the balance on stripped streamers.IMG_3891.jpeg

And kinda shallow water for an indicator....

I've seen big fish like that in really shallow but only on a full moon. it's pretty exciting you can hear them splashing all around you, hoping they spot the silhouette of your fly

Fishing today at a lake with some big fish. I had a caught a 20+ fish on a bloodworm. A couple of casts later I had a takedown and two giants jump together! One on each fly. They both jump and are at eye level in my tube. Awesome. Later I caught a bunch at another lake watching the bobber. As an ADHD guy I don't do it unless it's working, but if it works, it's great and keeps my interest.

I don't much care for it, but I've caught some pretty decent fish doing so. I generally get bored, find myself watching anything but the indicator and end up missing strikes

Today on a NE WA lake I was doing quite well on a wide variety of flies and decided to hang a small black snowcone below a sunrise blob suspended below an indicator. I had so many small fish constantly hitting the snowcone that I had to clip the damn thing off.

I didn't try it until I moved to Washington and started fishing for trout in lakes. Never had much luck until after the swap and meet last year, when I fished a small lake near the Lost Creek fly shop. Bobber down! All the time! It was great and sold me in the technique.

But when it's not working, I feel like a big dumb bump on a log.

I prefer to troll around a lake rather than indicator fishing. Part of the reason I troll is I get to see more of the homes around it, if any, and nature's splendor in all its glory. Also, it is more mentally stimulating thereby letting me forget trials and tribulations of life.

Occasionally I get to see ladies tanning themselves so there are no tan lines.

Two buddies and I just got home from 2 days fishing a nearby reservoir. We spent 100% of the time fishing floating lines and indicators. Over the 2 days we figured we landed around 130 rainbows. 90% of them 15-18". The other 10% were 19-24". Fat as can be and strong fish. But trust me indicator fishing isn't any good. :ROFLMAO:
