World Record Archery Bull Elk

Looks like a new world record is pending. Taken in WA on new years eve. Thing is a freaking tank.

Lots of drama surrounding this one, but 1 hell of an animal! Brooks has taken 12 elk over 400 inches, he knows how to shoot, when and where!

I’m a hunter myself and am all for hunting but just thinking out loud and from a conservation standpoint here and not trying to ruffle any feathers or anything but should an individual be allowed to harvest 86 bull elk?

Massive! The meat won't be tender at that age though.

I don't have a problem with it. Most people aren't willing to put in the time or energy to pull off something that remarkable.

86 elk means more than one a season. I assume that most states only allow one elk per person per season. Then I thought of the several states a hunter could pursue elk, so it's possible. But that would be one heck of a hunting schedule!

Back when we had fish we had fish stories.

We still have private land and alfalfa so I guess now we have elk stories.

There are some guys (I know a few of them) that hunt 3-4 states every year. It's a massive undertaking. Those that post about it on social media have received a fair amount of criticism. I don't agree with the criticism, but I don't feel particularly "bad" for someone who allows strangers to voice their opinion of them.

One of my very best friends in the world hunted whitetail in 4-5 states/provinces every year for almost 20 years. There were years where he killed 5 bucks in a season and other where hilled 0 bucks. No one outside of his circle of friends will ever know anything about those hunts.

Tried and true. The classic.

Bait piles..... bring a hot meal and a good book.

The internet helps too. You see neighborly people posting pictures of a potential world record in their backyard/area and then you go there and wait for him to walk up to you.

.....since you asked.

Just got back from holidays with Dad in TX... There are some great white hunters there.

Some of the nicest blinds one could imagine. Deer corn for sale everywhere. Meh ... What else you gonna do with the salt so far.

have an uber fit friend I've known since he was a young teen who solo bow hunts trophy brown bear. Decade ago he scored his lifetime trophy after a three day stalk through vertical, remote terrain. He was over 20 miles from the trailhead where he had parked his 4x4 when he finally killed it. Hiked back with pics (bear was huge), front paws, bit of meat. As someone who use to bird hunt and took down a few local deer with an old .32 WS, view hunting for consumption as just eliminating the middleman. Killing an apex best of breed for pics and bragging rights is something entirely different.

Wow, what a trophy! The hunter has obviously put in his hours and days and weeks pursuing elk, and his expertise shows.

Me, I have zero issue with the number of bulls he's harvested; given the publicity, I cannot believe that he will have contravened any regulations.
