playing around with smallie popper ideas. I'll see how this looks over the weekend. I can always flip the cork around (it's drilled out and slid down on the tippet), remove it for an articulated streamer, or just cut off the front shank for one of my stripped down versions of the trash panda baitfish pattern.

Could you peg it a couple feet up the leader for a pop n fly?

probably, I've never tried it. I suppose if you drilled a smaller hole in the cork it'd be easier. I basically just flared out the bucktail on the front shank to provide more of a stopper so the cork wouldn't slide way back. It works on my musky flies, so I can't imagine it wouldn't work here.

back-lit to give you an idea of just how sparse things should be here...

For this one, I used some Titan dubbing for the head and glued on the eyes...also had some bucktail just under that to give it that bulk.

Why?

Why not have the best of both worlds as you were?

I've always enjoyed your clear and concise posts on this thread.
He posts on every fly fishing/tying forum I can find on the net, even long dead ones, and has a blogspot website with all his ties also. So maybe last one here for today?

I just never have understood why folks need to announce their departure. We’ll figure it out

Be a shame to see him go. And, I wasn't aware of all the other places he posts...

Finally got some of the Ahrex swim bait hooks (PR378), playing with some ideas I have been pondering.
The hook come in three sizes 2/0 to 6/0 and are huge.
The pattern swims, dives, and shimmys like I had hoped, as well as casts well even on a 6wt.
I tested it out at a popular small lake and I got some strange looks.
Fun stuff!
