Hoping to see some pink fry soon.
I’m trying to come up with a soft hackle that would cover both pink and chum fry with a blueish for pinks and brownish gold for chums color scheme. I added light blue and gold krystal flash and used a teal sharpie on the top side of the grizzly hackle.
I’ll fish it by itself or do the hopper / dropper with the gurgler up front.

Hornberg

Originated by Frank Hornberg in the 1920's

Hook - Mustad 9671
Thread - Black
Body - Flat silver tinsel
Underwing - Yellow calf tail, tied so as to tilt slightly upward
*Overwing - 2 mallard flank feathers, 1 each side
Cheeks - Jungle cock eyes, 2nd eye showing
Hackle - Grizzly and brown mixed - tied as a dry fly collar

* I have 2 gallon bags of teal feathers to use up. My drastically poor supply of mallard flank just couldn't do it

Been away from the vise for a few days so I’ll start with something basic. First time using caribou for the wing; although this patch had a good bit of underfur to comb out (or whatever it’s called on an ungulate), it’s very easy to work with. Probably won’t get to fish the hatch here in Montana but it’ll work for the Hecubas in the fall, too.

hook - WFC Model 3 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 tan
shuck - Congo Hair brown
rib - UniStretch brown
abdomen - dubbing tan
wing - caribou hair

Regards,
Scott

I like it better with teal. Great fly that unfortunately fell of my radar. Thanks for the inspiration to tie some up.

This is the most effective March Brown dry patterns for just about any river I've tried them in Oregon during the MB hatches. The next most effect is a parachute March Brown. But for whatever the reason, the comparadun style edges out other dry flies when it comes to representing a March Brown dun.

Florida keys trip didn't work out as planned on the fishing side..... American airlines canceled our flights twice and rescheduled each time. Ended up being a great family trip, but instead of 5 fishing days it turned into two with one being a full rain day.... still can't get the flats off my mind so here's a couple ep/merkin type crabs for the next trip to the skinny water.
