Need a few more heavyweights to make it to the end of the season. Had one last two days, then went through two today.1000000152.jpg

Bugs tend to be a darker dirty motor oil color but this is closer than all of the olive flies I’ve seen (and tied); at this time of year, they haven’t seemed that picky to me but I don’t fish rivers like the Bitterroot where they see a lot of pressure. Tips of the caribou took the dye well enough (although it needed to stay in th bath longer), but the butts…

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - SemperFli 8/0 black
egg sac - UniStretch black
rib - small wire hot yellow
body - Hare’s Ear Plus chocolate brown
hackle - grizzly dyed brown
shoulder - golden pheasant body feather yellow
collar/head - caribou dyed brown (3/4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Camel, 1/ Tsp Rit Sunshine Orange/2 cups water)

Regards,
Scott

End of the season whereby you then begin the start of the next stream season and fish the same fly? 😁
Well, there will be some lake fishing in between, but yeah. I've got many rods, so I can present different ways. I can ESN or tightline it, two days I fished it under a bobber. Many times, like yesterday, I swing it. I love fishing down and across. Same fly, but I can tweak it for many different methods and seasons.

Do people who tie these use a gallows tool? I was really wanting a third hand for the hackle! I used uni-stretch for the post.
Looks fishy Zak! I made my gallows tool from an old metal paint can handle. I just use the tying thread to make the loop, after winding the hackle I press it downward towards the hook, pull over and tie the thread loop by the hook eye. It’s almost impossible to pull the hackle off….way stronger than a parachute. The fly sits flush in the surface film…..

instead of "fur/feather/flash", I present, "fake fur/real fur/minimal flash/no feathers"

I grabbed some Squimpish fibers and god damn are they long! I had to trim back just to get a relatively decent balance of head/tail ration. But, I know they'll move well, and don't hold water in the slightest.

Back end was inspired by Davie McPhail’s Big Mac Muddler; rest of fly was random bits and pieces.

tail - yarn chartreuse/deer hair dyed red
rib - small wire hot yellow
body - dubbing dyed neon peach (2 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/8 Tsp Rit Coral/1 cup water)
hackle - ginger
shoulder - golden pheasant body feather red
collar/head - caribou dyed brown (3/4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Camel, 1/ Tsp Rit Sunshine Orange/2 cups water)
