I like it. If it seems too much in the water I'd just pull a few of the fibers out to make it sparser.

While in my head I know it also has to much hackle, it's hard to reconcile with how LITTLE hackle these guys are supposed to have. I think Dave Hughes calls for 1 maybe 2 turns of hackle BUT with 1/2 side stripped. SO SPARSE

I know. If I'm summer tying they are more sparse or I'm more likely to pick at one. This winter the softhackles I'm fishing are quite full. Can always pick some off, can't add more. I'll just read the feedback and let the fish decide on the day. I'm just that confident they will eat one if they are there.

Couple of minnows with craft fur and nayat on NS182 #4 hooks. The thin gauge and curved hook tip holds fish really well from my experience.

I am painting eyes and they are not so good. That is old school style.
Also sculpin bucktail creeping under the shank. I have to do better job. Fly could be salvaged by few more Sally Hansen layer and red globrite thread. Hook is Ahrex Lite stinger.
