It is dyed pheasant feather. I have natural, green and this merlot. Present from friend who got them from China I believe. Not some superior quality but nice colours.

Never fished for snook, but all white is great for a number of species. Nice tie. Very similar to a Schminnow pattern.

I have a soft-hackle question.
Is there a difference between a brown and a natural partridge skin? When a pattern calls for brown partridge is it simply calling for a brown feather from a natural skin?
There are different species of partridge with differing plumage, but overall you are correct in your thoughts. The white is up front by the throat and gets darker brown to the back. There can be other shades, reds, and grays hidden in there as well. They all have their place.
