This fly was probably brought into the United States from New Zealand during the 1930s.

Jim Pray is largely responsible for popularizing it out of his little shop in Eureka, California.

I usually cut the underside of the collar flush with the body but I’ll leave it full here and see how it handles on the water.

For an upcoming trout trip. Super simple golden stone. Water will still be a bit high and fast so no need for a ton of detail. At least that is what it tell myself because I suck at tying dries. Even large ones ;).

This is really close to a pattern I use on a hex hatch near me and it's one of the more productive hex patterns I use.

First 25 done. Some of the next 25 will incorporate glow in the dark materials and will be tied in different colors. Then some other patterns. I should have started tying for coho months ago…
