The Cape of Cod (caution...hero shots)

I get to fish the Cape each June with a group of guys from Eugene. This year the striper numbers are a bit reduced, and the shore fishing has been tough. Poor weather and not many schoolies at our usual wade spots. It's possible the fish are just late this year.

However, the last two days I have been fishing with guides and having a blast. Lots of action on gurglers and some epic sight fishing on the outer sand bars. Olive clousers on an 8 wt rod and a floating/intermediate line. A couple 20lb fish today...

Will be in NE in a couple weeks with some time to chase stripers, mind posting a picture of the flies that worked for you??

That is awesome. That bluefish looks like it just wants to mess someone up.

In August that fish will no longer be all head….well shit…..just remembered….it won’t be anything but tasty if ceviche is in the future.
It could’ve, would’ve, might’ve, been 20+# by then anyway. Nice fish off the beach!

Suh-weeet! Did you have to run a wire leader or did you get lucky with hook position when the fish took?
That fished was landed on 20 lb fluoro but the tippet was seriously abraided...just lucky.

I have been efforting to improve my rigging skillz trying wire and the plastic coated cable leaders. Today I hooked 3 more and landed another on cable. The plastic coating was scratched bigly.

The teeth on those blues are a hazard no doubt!

I know Bluefish doesn't have a great reputation as table fare but my buddy makes fantastic ceviche with it...It was delish on the grill too.

For sure, I'm traveling home now but will post soon. Basically, an olive over white clouser. I've been using olive Fuzzy Fiber to good effect also. That being said, lots of colors work: white , black, pink, tan, etc

Also been fishing gurglers and having a blast. Orange, pink and white from medium to large size. They don't work in all situations, but when a 10lb striper flushes on a gurgler I giggle like a school kid.
