Spoon Carving

Billy asked for a thread about my spoons, so here we go I guess. Since they’re for cooking and eating I figured this was the best place for it?

Anyway, one of my hobbies is carving spoons using pretty much just an axe and some knives. I usually start with a chunk of green word and then spit out and rough shape with an axe.

From there I go to the knives, using a straight sloyd knife for most of the work and then a curved hook knife to shape the inside of the bowl.

Once they’re done I burnish them with a piece of porcelain and then give them a coat of oil.

It’s been a really great hobby that doesn’t take up too much space and gives me something sort of meditative to do. And I end up with something cool to share with friends and family. Any other carvers out there?
