Had some work to do out on the other side of the mountains last weekend, so snuck out for half a day and visited a creek not terribly far away from where I was working. I didn't have a ton of time, but half a day proved to be more than enough time to satiate my fishing needs.
Didn't expect to see many hoppers, but noticed quite a few on my walk to the creek.
After getting to the first spot, noticed some fish rising, so decided to go w/ the hopper to start, the third cast provided a real nice hopper eat.
There were more fish in the younger age class than I'd seen here before, still fun. They were healthy and fought good for the size. And they all liked to jump, which was fun.
I had considered myself lucky, as the day before the wind was blowing, and it howled the following two days. This day though, was calm. The birds were out doing there thing, and so were the bugs and the fish.
After seeing a few mayflys, tried switching it up with the hopes that maybe some of the monsters were being more selective. Didn't have much luck on the mayfly, aside from a few smaller fish, so switched it up to streamers and got into several hard fighting fish.
The wildflowers and birds made the walking between spots quite enjoyable.
No rattlers, and also no browns to hand, although a big one did break me off after getting into some heavy weeds and leaving me no options other than to break it off.
All in all, good half day in the desert.
Oh, and always fun to figure out the reason why your right foot was hurting like a mother F*&Cker is because your kids somehow managed to get a lego anchor in your boot...
