Yes, tidal overflow was quite impressive this morning.
Lots of water everywhere, including some of the roads so be aware that tomorrow will be the same along the canal, if you are out this way.
Local flooding and some road closures right now, and after the winds things will be messy I suppose.

Ha, well you know me better than many here! How many times have I texted you at 10 pm…or 4:30 am and said….”hmm, not sure where…I’m going to make a the call when I get to the turn-off to beach X” I tend to “feel” more than I “plan” when it comes to fishing…ha.

When it comes to feel versus plan and Puget Sound fishing, I’m not sure it really matters :).

Back in 1985 or so, a buddy and I rented a house on Eld Inlet near Olympia. It sat real low to the beach. The bedrooms were on the bottom floor and an artesian well drained out of the hillside and formed a small pond which then drained through a log boom into the inlet. Twice that year, the tide rose high enough to enter the house and fill the bedrooms with about 3-4 inches of water. I actually watched the tide come in and recede from my bed. Pretty trippy.

I saw a satellite image of the house on Google maps recently. It was rebuilt and expanded into what looks to be a very expensive home. They turned the well/pond into a nice looking water feature. I wonder how it fared in this recent king tide.

I failed in my mission to catch an SRC from MA’s 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 in a single day. I made the mistake of checking work emails before heading out and that resulted in my fly not hitting the water until 10:15 am. Boo! I gave it a shot though and ended up catching fish from 3 of the 5. Not sure these tides were ideal to try this week anyway. Super high water made casting and even access tough in a couple of places.

Normally there is a beach here :). Managed to get a cuttie casting over a spot that is dry most high tides.

Anyway, 5 beaches, 4 MA’s fished (never made it to 11), 7 fish hooked, 5 landed. Probably should have just headed south and fished the outgoing through the afternoon. Probably would have had a better day numbers wise. Any day on the water’s a hood one though!

A cuttie from the three MA’s (9, 10, 13).

We stopped by Shine on Wed right at high, and the water was right up to the edge of the parking area. It had clearly been across the road on either Mon or Tues, as the road was littered with drift logs, the portapotty was tipped over, and we filled half the back of my van with trash, including a huge chunk of styrofoam, a couple old buoys, a 5 gal bucket, many beer bottles, and a double-dry-boxed, still-blinking "TrackX" tracking device of some kind. Another beach held a deflated 8ft WestMarine inflatable that was too full of sand for me to move.

It's a mess out there!

And a day later, I’m assuming the driftwood asteroids now reside somewhere to the north, given the strong south wind.

Keep an eye out for one that is shaped like a stout balding man triumphantly hoisting a fish over his head.

Indeed, driftwood and actual whole tree asteroid fields everywhere in Puget Sound, my daugther and I took the boat out today and found a few. Not sure if the same that you (@Matt B ) saw but definetly north of Lincoln Park. Reminded me of pre-COVID fly fishing for dorado (mahi mahi) in Panama chasing "palos" (sticks) during the rainy season. Alas, no dorados where spotted this time, but the last day of winter crab fishing did not dissapoint. Happy New Year!
PS: is the middle pic below the one triumphantly hoisting a fish that you warned us about? 😁

Fished South Sound yesterday, not my brightest idea but a stop at Gig Harbor Fly Shop and polite land owners confronting us after we accidentally trespassed found some new beaches. Hopefully they come in handy on less extreme tide days but I imagine Cutthroat fishing is going to quickly drop off until Spring

Hit the beach today. Wasn’t expecting much and that is exactly what I got. Only fished for maybe an hour. Water was off color and lots of crap in the water. Got triple limits on eel grass.
The beaches and wood sure got a good reshuffle this past week. Some will fish differently after the high water.
Lot of folks and dogs out getting rid of their cabin fever. Must have gotten asked at least five times what I was fishing for.
Tons of litter on the beaches. One nice Nike is available and there is a pair of daisy dukes buried under there if anyone is interested. Lots of booze and beer bottles, cans and fireworks debris left from last night as well, which is disappointing.

No 2023 humpies were harmed in the making of this report.

Hey, as you get rid of all the stuff you brought back from the beach, I'll take that old fly rod and reel. ;)
