Late September Oregon Tidewater

We just completed our second annual "Geezer Tour" on the Oregon coast. The three of us worked together and now are retired from long careers with a state resource agency. We fished two days in two different watersheds, both within a short driving distance from our place in Lincoln County. We were targeting tidewater staging coho and chinook but in hindsight, should have also spent some time pursuing SRC's. We also threw in a bonus day of crabbing since it's usually good this time of year.

Crabbing was on the agenda for day one and it did not disappoint. The crab were large and full and we ended up with more than enough for the three of us to share.

On day two, we fished an outgoing tide at our first destination. A few fish were seen waking and rolling but overall, it was slow - except for the usual variety of non target species.

There were quite a few fish showing in the upper tidewater of our afternoon destination. One rather large chinook was hooked by Don but it came unbuttoned rather quickly.

Some much needed rain arrived Tuesday evening and continued into Wednesday. Our local rivers bumped up in flow which enticed many of the tidewater staging fish to head upriver. Wednesday's effort was a repeat of Tuesday minus an angry hooked chinook.

Our final day on the water ended with a nice dose of Oregon liquid sunshine.

The Geezers will reconvene on the Oregon coast next fall - I'll be back at it next week.
