I wish I'd known about this sooner so I could have posted it with more than 24 hours of notice. But I'm posting it anyway in case any north sound folks are looking for something to do tomorrow.

I just copied and pasted the info from North Sound TU, but here is a link to their email announcement if you'd rather read that version.

Here is a link to Google Maps for the Kulshan K2 taproom.

Dave Johnson Memorial Silent Auction
At the film, NSTU will host an auction featuring Dave's own legendary steelhead fly rods and reels. Kulshan Brewery will also be donating $1 per pint sold between 6-9pm to NSTU, so drink up. The following is a list of items up for auction, including notes Dave left with them. Arrive early to to have a look at the items.
6:00 pm - Doors open
7:00 pm - Film starts
8:00 pm - Silent auction closes

1. Scott S3S 908/9’ 8 Weight Saltwater Rod

Note: I bought this rod from Scott Christensen when I first went to Crooked Island over 10 years ago and have not used it since. It comes in a case with rod sock.

2. Fin-Nor #3 Saltwater Reel with extra spool

3. Sage Graphite GFL 10160-3B 16’ 11 Weight 3-piece rod built by Anderson Custom Rods in 1986

Note: It is my first “double handed” rod that I used on the Skagit, Thompson, and Dean rivers. It is a heavy rod that I helped balance by putting on a brass fighting butt. Bob York was a very aggressive steelheader who used heavy flies, and waded deep when he fished the Dean River. Once I noted fish moving in the water behind him and I used this rod to cast across the river, hooking a fish in the water between him and the shore. The rod will cast a long line.

4. CND Salmo Salar Specialist 15’6” 4 piece for 9/10/11 weight. lines.

Note: I brought to hand the largest steelhead I ever caught by any means with this rod. It was a broad backed deep coastal winter run that measured 44 to 45 inches in length using the markings on the rod. I used this rod anywhere I fished for steelhead.

5. Scott A1509/4 15’ 4 piece 9wt. spey rod

Note: I used this rod for about a year before I bought the C&D which replaced it. It has no rod case or sock.

6. Sage Graphite III GFL 9140-4b 14’ 4 piece 9wt. rod made by Don Frazier

Note: This rod was designed by Harry Lemire. He used it primarily for waking dry flies for steelhead

7. Hardy Marquis Salmon No.1

8. Sage Graphite 9’6” 7 wt.

Note: I made this rod from a blank. It has a fighting butt and comes with a rod sock.

9.Sage 7136 Z Axis 13’6” 7 weight spey rod.

10. Scientific Anglers System One Reel 456 & Spare Spool

11.Scientific Anglers System One Reel 789 & 2 Spare Spools

12.Lamson LP5 Reel with Spare Spool

About the film
: Bill McMillan has been volunteering his time and energy to steelhead recovery on the Skagit River in Washington for decades—helping to lead fellow volunteers in the collection of data for spawner surveys. These spawner surveys are designed to offer a baseline estimate for returning fish to the Skagit River and its tributaries every year. Bill is a wellspring of information on fish and fishing and remains a steadfast steward of conservation and is an inspiration in his community. As Bill nears his retirement from volunteer work, he is passing on the torch of the invaluable information he has collected over the years as well as his process of data collection into the capable arms of other driven volunteers.
This Waist Deep Media production pays homage to Bill's years of volunteer work and his shining example of citizen science. We hope that this short documentary will also inspire others to get involved in the work that Trout Unlimited is doing to protect and restore coldwater habitat around the country.
