I couldn't take it anymore and broke out the kayak and a new fly reel and line I needed to test out. I hit a local lake for a few hours of paddling (didn't bring the pedal drive) and fly casting. Other than tons of geese, ducks, and other birds - the lake was pretty dead. Then, as soon as the wind would die down, fish would start to rise. I didnt' have a lot of time to try and match the hatch, but I had fun casting to risers. Spotted a BIG fish busting bait in a shallow area. Not sure if it was a trout or bass. But it was displacing a lot of water. Was nice to get out, even if the trout were not ready to play. There were TONS of hatching midges about, so probably could have matched the hatch or even fished chironomids, but was mainly enjoying the casual paddle around the lake and casting to a few risers now and then.
