Hunting Season!!!

Next week I am going steelheading over on the Grand Ronde.. I'm taking my rifle for the mornings and fishing in the evenings
So much game in that area. The first time I went there for fishing it was during the general rifle deer season. Both mornings we were awakened by a rifle shot just down the road from the campsite, someone finding a buck on the hillside at dawn. So cool.

Hope you get a buck and wrassle a few steelies too, Rob.

Thank you.. if i get a deer. It's because it was out late drinking and just stumbling home at dawn.... that's the kind of luck I need :)

Good luck, Rob. It's been a long time since I've been up to HB. I used to stay with my friend in his motorhome at the confluence. One day I was up the Ronde wading a stretch when I heard a clatter just behind me and up the river maybe 50 feet. A ram came down and waded in to get a drink. No camera.

Well, I just finished my first hunting trip ever. My son and I were invited on the church hunting trip over on the east side.

I had been thinking about putting more effort into River fishing this year but now I think my efforts are going to be concentrated on ducks from now on. I shot four with my pastor, his father, and his son's. The next day I was able to get my own with my son, a beautiful hen shoveler.

I'm addicted...

Nice photos! Does anyone know what plant makes that area so red? I saw similar red hills and valleys in northern BC in early fall, but that was years ago, and I've forgotten. Maybe dwarf birch? Thanks a lot!

A lot of them were colored up fall blueberry bushes on those hills, along with the occasional grizzly as seen in the upper left corner in this highly zoomed in cellphone photo.

I worked 1:30-midnight on Sunday, and was also on call at work from midnight to 7, and get killed. I finished with patients at 6:30 this morning and was still pretty awake, so I decided to go out for the sunrise and see if I could scrounge up some birds.

I ended up bagging a really gorgeous blue grouse. I think it’s the third I’ve ever harvested (the other two were in Washington), and I’ve only ever seen a handful in southern Oregon in my entire childhood of hunting here.

This thing was a chunk and the feathers are really gorgeous. I’m going to use this big guy to tie flies as well IMG_1524.jpeg
