Hammocks

Anyone using hammocks?

Buddy got me hooked on them. I have a 4 season hammock and really loving it. Have the rain fly, under quilt, and all the other goodies. Have used it down to 15° F and was perfectly warm. Only problem is finding a place to hang it. But so nice having a small bag that has my complete camping set up.

I've honestly never even laid in one. As a light, restless sleeper... would I even be comfortable?

You may have a problem. Or the opposite you'll be snugged up tight. I toss and turn but sleep well in it. I tried to upload pics but they were too large.

I use them all the time and even designed some for my (former) job. I love them as does @Ed Call (who will hopefully be joking soon). When my back was really bad a few years ago, I followed advice from Ed and set mine up in my bedroom. I got relief pretty quickly and was eventually able to sleep in my bed. Prior to setting up the hammock, I was having to literally crawl to the bathroom in the morning, take 4 Advil and crawl back to bed until they kicked in. (I was too stupid to put a glass of water and Advil on my nightstand, LOL.)

I am too, Evan, and love them! I am also a side sleeper who changes sides about once an hour. There is a learning curve to setting them up correctly and you need the right one (which generally aren’t mass market ones sold in stores), but they are super comfortable once you get them dialed in.

Maybe we can do a PNW FF outing sometime and I’ll bring some hammocks for you to try if you want.

Have portable camp kitchen, will travel!
Hey, I just got a new camp kitchen that may rival yours! It fits in my rig perfectly. I will need to make some adjustments to it and have already started but I think it will work out great!

Here it is when I first picked it up and a photoshopped version of my vision after modifications: (hey, it was free so I figured it was worth a try)

Does it have an Easy Bake oven? I think the cake I started in my EBO back in 1980 is almost finished. 😉

LOL! Be sure to invite me over for cake when it gets done! 🍰

Everything on this kid’s toy is all fake. The oven, fridge, microwave, etc. are just cupboards, which will be handy. I removed all the fake plastic stove and faucet and other parts already. I may install a real sink and water pump, along with fresh and gray water tanks below the sink. I do have a real RV (two actually, lol) but this will come in handy for certain trips. A girl has to have options, afterall!

I think I'm maybe 2, possibly 3, years to the cake being done. On my 30th bulb in the Easy Bake Oven.

I backpack with a hammock. An 11' dutchware that is super comfortable.
I use the klymit insulated V hammock pad because it give me the option to go to ground if I can't find suitable trees.
I go with a hammock gear premium burrow 30 degree down topquilt. This combo has kept me perfectly comfortable down to the upper 20s.

I backpacked the wonderland trail last August in 11 nights and got to spend 10 of them hanging.

I tried a hammock on the GR last spring. I'm a side sleeper who thrashes around like a snake with a broken back, so it was pretty confining. And it was hot and stuffy in there. Hopefully get some tips, and I'd like to try it again.

I'd like to try a modern camping hammock. I have had several high quality Guatamalan cotton string hammocks (double size) and I can sleep well in them, even though I am usually a stomach sleeper. But these hammocks are heavy and don't do well in the rain.

Would you mind giving the make and model of your 4 season hammock? I'm interested in putting together a hammock camping setup and the choices are a little overwhelming.

I actually went inexpensive. It's made by Easthills Outdoor called the Skyloft. Came with everything, including tarp, for $65. Then I added the under and sleeping bag (both made by OneTigris it's like a huge woobie). The under quilt is needed for the under insulation. Also have a pad. Just pad in hammock won't be enough I was told. So wasn't that expensive so figured why not.
