I love this little patch of backyard. It offers a variety of choices, one of which is a brushy little creek at 3000'+. Unexpectedly, this turned into a solo trip which meant never having to wonder if I was spending too much time dawdling around fishing, taking pictures, or whatever. Surprisingly, the bigger pools didn't really produce, but the little fishy pockets you'd expect to find one in usually did. And they are always looking up.
I picked my way upstream through brush, over fallen logs, occasional rock scrabbling; just dinking along like I was a kid in the Catskills again. The fish were beautiful.
Eventually, I got back to business on the trail. I still had a few miles to go before setting up camp.
It was a lovely day with cool green woods, wildflowers, and butterflies galore.
I slept well but woke with tired legs from all of that creek travel with 20# on my back. Undaunted, I clambered up a 5600' peaklet above camp for some fine views and explored the head of the valley before packing up and heading home. Good times!
