Non-Fly Bassin

Outside of some popper fishing on the fly rod, I do the VAST majority of my bass fishing with gear rods. This is mostly because I have never had the patience or interest in fishing lakes with a fly rod. Big respect to all those guys who do around here, but it's just never been my thing (interestingly enough, I feel the exact opposite about moving water, where I virtually only use a fly rod).

Senkos, ned rigs, soft swimbaits, and spinnerbaits are my most used bass lures.

Just so guys know it's game on time..
Last weekend there was a small tournament out of hood river. 11 boats over half the field had 5 fish limits over 15 lbs one limit was nearly 20lbs.

Point is big fish bite is right now on the mid-Columbia.

Not an expert, but I use gear on them sometimes. Swim baits and Senkos are all I've messed with much, and they work quite well. I have found flies (particularly Clousers) to be as or even more effective on the mostly smaller fish we have locally, but when you're fishing heavy cover for big fish that aren't looing up, weedless gear presentations (think Texas rigged worm and crayfish baits) are often the rule.
