I’m not the most artistic writer, I’m way too concrete so I’ll keep it short. I had an Auckland layover a couple weeks ago so instead of opting to hang around town for 54 hours, I headed southwest down to the Tongariro River for a full day. Given it had been raining heavily on the drive down the water was gin clear and air temps were about 42F along with sunny. Along those lines, I forgot how damn slick my vibrams are and went for a little dunk. Fortunately, my wading belt and submersible backpack kept most of the water out and I was able to change shirts and dry my fleece out on the rigs defroster. The count for the day was 2 to hand, 1 break off and 2 LDR’s, all on glow bugs. Next month I have another 55 hr layover, so I’ll most likely repeat. I will also add while the rooms were a little chilly, the Turangi Bridge Motel was perfect, clean, inexpensive and the restaurant was decent.
