A day on the skagit

Ran my Sharpes 13' impregnated bamboo fly rod, 4.5" JW Young Reel and a Lemire Steelhead Sculpin down a long riffle on the skagit today. No steelhead but 1 bull trout to hand. There was ice along the edge of the river but the sun was out and Mt Baker was covered with snow. A good day to be alive.

The only disappointment was my new Nextcast winter authority 70 9/10 line. I like mid and long belly lines because I don't have to strip in at the end of the cast. I think the winter authority might be too much line for the Sharpes. I switched back to the Gravity Point Spey which has been my fav line with the Sharpes and ended the day casting much better.

I really wish I'd been able to get to the skagit before it closes in a few days. Such is life sometimes.

Good for you for shoehorning one more day in. I got out on the Sky yesterday, and while a beautiful day, it felt lazy and I should’ve just driven another hour to honor the Skagit.
