What's in your vise?

Maybe. When I fish them with other flies, no matter the dropper position, the other flies get hit. I've tried them alone several times this winter because it's supposed to be a good whitefish fly, but I think I've only got 1 or 2 fish on them.
Just need to fish them during the right hatch. #16 during the BWO hatch would do damage. Are you fishing these with similar flies or dissimilar flies?

Dissimilar, hare's ear, egg, pat's, prince.

One Eyed Poacher
This is a "classic" Maine Streamer (Smelt) 20230214_141614.jpg20230214_141654.jpg20230214_141620.jpgDeveloped by the late, great Bob Upham.

The interesting fact about this fly is that you put eyes only one one side. Allegedly, Bob named this fly after a Book by Ed Smith (The one eyed poacher and the Maine Woods) in which he talks about interactions with Maine Game Wardens

Hook # 4-8 Streamer (5x)
Thread-Black
Body-Silver Tinsel
Wing Yellow Bucktail, Red Bucktail, Yellow Marabou
Overwing-Wood Duck, or Mallard Flank
Eyes-Painted**
** I use Scribble Brand 3-D paint from Michaels Craft Store. The paint is "goopy" and produces a blob rather than a flat surface. It give a "bug eye" look to the eyes.

Nice ties guy's. I have similar flies, but for the life of me I can't get the fish to eat them.
I can only catch occasional tiny fish on Shop Vacs. But regular PTs work well for me when deployed at the right times.

Thx. I have a better idea of when might be appropriate to use them now. I think I have too many 10's and 12's that I grab, similar in size to other flies I fish, with a nice size bead to get down, when I should be working more the 14-16-18(gasp) size.

I don’t recall catching much on the larger PT’s. But the 16-20s have done really well in rivers in Montana and Idaho.

Box filling simiseal leeches for under the indicator. They seem to usually work, but sometimes I have to shorten the tail early in the season. I'll tie a bunch of these but don't have a preferred bead color for the peacock or bronze peacock yet.

I do like to give them a hot water dip to sculpt and shape the fibers a bit.
