NFR 2022 Baseball Thread

Non-fishing related
I quit talking about them bums. I just got tired wasting brain cells over that team.

Bobby Bonilla day....
:)

They are the hottest team in baseball right now. I’m cautiously optimistic. I want to believe. They have managed to stay relevant in spite of losing some key players. Watching the games has been enjoyable.

On a different note, what genius made the decision that the only place to see tonight’s game is on Apple TV? I’m not subscribing to Apple TV just to watch one game.

Has been fun watching Julio. I read that he is the only player in MLB history to have 15+ home runs and 20 stolen bases after the first 81 games of the season. The two players who came the closest were a guy named Bonds and some kid with a big smile who liked to put his cap on backwards. Julio, 6'3" and 228 lbs. Wonder if he has ever carried a football.

Well they have had a dozen or so .500 or better seasons...
Thats probably enough winning.
;)

I don't think it was about you. Most likely it was about the Mariners cashing in. All games can be watched. The clues are mixed in with all the Mariner bashing in this thread.

Complaining about baseball teams is as old as the game itself. You might try getting use to it. People have done it for 150 years. Next.

It's MLB's attempt to reach younger, more diverse fans. Many games across the league are being broadcast on streaming only: AppleTV, Prime Video, mlb.tv, etc.

Many in the older age bracket (more traditional view of the game) are going to be really upset by a lot of changes MLB is implementing, but I do believe they are best for the long term health of the fan base. MLB fanship is becoming less team based and more star/personality based, which streaming will help. Changes to the rules of gameplay will hopefully make the game faster and contain more action.

They could always go the way of Rollerball…

(Homage to James Caan…RIP)

Wife and I tried to watch the game on the tube last night and all of a sudden couldn’t (yeah, we’re “in the older age bracket “)

How can that be good for baseball?

I don't watch or care about baseball, but I suspect the effort "to reach younger, more diverse fans" will go about as well as it has for the dying geriatric sport of golf. 😁

... so dying and geriatric that a new Saudi tour has started up offering even bigger prize money, since multimillion dollar purses in the PGA aren't big enough for this dying sport...

Just sayin...

cheers

Nationally the trend of permanent golf course closures continues (as it has for decades) to outpace course openings. Spokane, which is a golf mecca, has had several courses close for residential development. Its participants (which also comprise tour viewership) are mostly in the enlarged prostate / God's waiting room population cohort. And I say this from a family for which golf was a sacrosanct aspect of recreational life.

Professional bowling was once a big money 'sport' as well.

Just sayin...😄
