Just Hatched
Hi Everyone, I migrated from WA fly fishing. I didn't realize what the consequences of selling the forum were. I moved to AZ last fall and have been away. Mount Vernon was cold and no fishing so we decided we would move somewhere warm (it was 103 this afternoon).. Water issues down here are accelerating and it is no sure deal. Most of the lakes are water storage impoundment and your really need a boat to fish for Bass or Stripers. Last I checked, there were over 400 on the waiting list at Lake Pleasant Marina. So I don't know what I'm going to do with my small inflatable Water Strider. I used to do "Days at the River" with Aaron so I have a lot of Spey lines to sell. If anyone knows of a good Charity, I'll donate them. Anyway, I'm not going to get into the politics of NW angling but am happy to join the new forum. If anyone has suggestions regarding some trout trips to southern Utah or other relatively close places, it would be appreciated.

Shouldn't even need to go to Utah. There's trout fishing in Arizona, and some fun urban fisheries around Phoenix for various carps and other things. Actually looks kinda fun.

I'd be looking to figure out how to get that Water Strider onto Lake Havasu and go after those monster shellcrackers.

I used to live in Tucson, and I remember people fishing for carp in the canals. So you could give that a try. There's trout up in Oak Creek Canyon, the little Colorado, and other spots on the Rim. Plus the warmwater stuff. I sure as hell don't miss the 103 temps.

Curious about Mt Vernon offering no fishing. Is that due to no steelhead fishing seasons up north?
Welcome aboard.

I’ve fished for Apache trout on the res, wrong time of year, yadda yadda, no fish, but the tribal license and guide fees didn’t seem outa whack by northwest standards. Carp are fun, stripers an absolute blast…saltwater in mexico …. You’ve options, not really convenient, but options nonetheless. Get diggin….is there a TU group near you?

Regarding southern Utah, my club has made several trips there from California and most were very satisfied with the fishing and scenery.
https://quietflyfisher.com/ is the guide I recall, ask him about Panguitch lake. Some great fishing for big fish.
I completely stumbled upon Panguitch Lake on a road trip with my daughter last summer. She was bugging me "dad when can we fish???". "I DONT KNOW WE HAVE HOURS TO DRIVE! HELL, HERE'S A LAKE WE'LL CHECK IT OUT".

Took the first access road and found a muddy shallow area with like 9 fly flickers there. We waded out in the muck (she was 9) and we were casting to really big fat rainbows, tigers, and browns slurping callibaetis until a thunderstorm drove us out. I'm going to make a fishing trip to Panguitch as soon as I can, that place was so cool!

That lake and how they stock it is just ridiculous. Sometimes putting in 100k trout at a time and then doing the same next month...

If anyone is going, don't waste a single dime on a guide. Go a few weeks after ice off and just throw chironomids and leeches under an indicator 25' from the bank. Easiest fishing in the world, and it should be considering they stock over a million trout each year.

Wow really? Thanks for the info on that. Everything we saw was fat and strong and healthy looking. That lake was have ridiculously abundant food sources to keep all those fish fat and happy.
