What is the best Mexican food in Spokane or is it just hopeless?

I always go for the small inconspicuous looking joints for really great Mexican or Chinese food…
Ya get the “real” stuff. 😉

We were introduced to "La Presa" at Grand Coulee They have very large portions and great margaritas. Their other location is in Airway Heights.

Tacos Los ponchos in CDA is good taco truck food. Had it for lunch today.

I think all the good ones, except the one troutpocket mentioned are in airway heights, same with good Chinese restaurants.

Okay, so far no consensus choice of a good Mexican eatery. I expected that. Since I am principally in N. Spokane, CDA and Airway Heights are quite a reach. Pretty much the same with Chinese.

Recently while I was in Spokane for surgery I spent $50 on Chinese takeout for East Side Scott and I. It was so bad I couldn't eat even half of it. For the 2nd surgery stay I bought the $38 family meal from Panda Express because it was close by. Surprisingly the food was much better.

There's a pile of good Mexican spots in Spokane

Those two lead the pack

For Chinese, skip those places and move it over to Vien Dong. Get the lemongrass chicken. boom...

Without doubt, RANCHO CHICO at the Y in North Spokane is heads and shoulders above all the others. The owner, his family and long-time employees will provide great service and food, especially if you tell them that the doctor who always orders virgin strawberry margaritas for all his guests sent you to them

Yum. I don’t think those places existed in 2008.

I have eaten at La Presa in Grand Coulee several times. Usually good, once pretty bad. And last week tried Rancho Chico. My dining partner loved his chile relleno but my chicken dish had stale chicken.
Finding good Mexican food in the PNW has always been a conundrum. And of course-Spokane is not one of the cultural hot spots of the western world...

Although never been a fan of cucumbers.

Strongly disagree with this. I don't know Spokane well, but I can name a dozen restaurants as good or better than most restaurants I've eaten at in Mexico. All on the Eastside of the state, and none of them chains.

What is your definition of good Mexican food? What do you usually order? Maybe that can help someone guide you. It might just be people are suggesting places that don't make the dish you are looking for as well as the dish they like to order.

Cubed cucumber with small cocktail shrimp and a dab of cocktail sauce is very good.
Had my first at a casino in Vegas years ago and it has become a favorite. Sounds like a odd combo, but nice and cool on a hot summer night.
