What's Catching You Fish?

All those β€œC” fish…what, no cobia or coelacanth?
I've always wondered why 'Coelacanth' is pronounced with an 's' sound.... πŸ€”

If it comes from the Greek koilos which is definitely a hard K sound, and Latin is a dead language for which nobody alive knows the true pronunciation, that's a strong argument for a "koy-la-kanth" pronunciation.

Wikipedia sez: The word Coelacanth is an adaptation of the Modern Latin CΕ“lacanthus ('hollow spine'), from the Ancient Greek ΞΊΞΏαΏ–Ξ»-ΞΏΟ‚ (koilos, 'hollow') and αΌ„ΞΊΞ±Ξ½ΞΈ-Ξ± (akantha, 'spine'),[16] referring to the hollow caudal fin rays of the first fossil specimen described and named by Louis Agassiz in 1839, belonging to the genus Coelacanthus.[10]:β€Š1
