The top one looks perfect except the hook. The guide we used last year wanted them on 8/0 or 10/0. I saw another post earlier where you asked about inshore flies. A 4 or 5 inch black teardrop shaped thing on 6/0 for roosters and various snappers/grouper.

Day1-32.jpg

Tan over white clousers were good for things like sierras, halibut and pampano.

Triggers liked shrimpy stuff - maybe size2 with decent sized lead eyes.

Day3-31.jpg

Not sure if you plan on doing any dredging but 1/2 oz jigs are not too heavy. Smaller flies - 3 inches or so - seemed to be preferred.

I know it has been discussed here before, but not all 8/0s are created equal! There is a LOT of variation between hook models when it comes to shank length but especially hook gap. Some Owner Aki 8/0 hooks I recently bought have a 21mm hook gap. Can't remember what model but was comparing to 8/0s @adamcu280 was tying on, and his had a 26mm hook gap.

We discussed this two years ago. Fun to re-read. I've un-bunched my panties and stopped yelling at clouds now; I just buy/try/deal. https://pnwflyfishing.com/forum/threads/hook-size-inconsistency.8957/

I have tied on so many different hooks for our upcoming trip that I just have to hope that I'll have whatever pattern on whatever hook the guides prefer at the time I need it. Plus I have to give you eight of your choice. ;)

What are thoughts on weed guards for inshore flies? Not all my flies have them. I also have some shrimp tied with bead chain instead of lead eyes.
Not sure if this is to me but I will weigh in. We didn't get to the mangroves - the locals net in there and there was a dead golden trevally on the ground at the boat landing the day we had originally planned to fish back there. Weed guards might be useful to keep from hanging up in the trees, but no need for them on the beaches/rocks.

We fished from the boat 100% of the time. Maybe wade fishing bead chain would be useful but not from the boat. If you already have some I wouldn't do any more.

Your ties are looking great. I was going to fill in gaps from what colors I don’t have , but I should let the guide pick the keepers! 🤣

I tied on Gama SL12S 10/0. I just measured one and I would say 25mm.

Those Owner hooks are so sharp. Those should be more than fine.

The biggest problem I had with my flies was they tended to foul. The guide thought they were too sparse. I would get on the water and cast them before the trip to make sure yours swim properly and don't foul. I didn't put any eyes on mine cause when I do the flies don't swim straight.

Good call, thank you. I included a couple anti-fouling design features, such as the first material tied in ('tail' I guess but not really) is bucktail with a light brushing of flexi UV epoxy to help keep the floppier materials up where they need to be. Then more bucktail at strategic points to provide some structure and stability to the whole 'wing' even though it's not a wing. And yeah, I spend a lot of time to get the eyes right. Never perfect, but usually good enough for the fly to track correctly. It involves multiple layers of UV epoxy. First some straight into the fiber materials to give them some structure to mount the eyes on, and then little bits to "tack" the eyes on, followed by the final outside finishing coats.

Yeah, I'm short on stuff larger than 3/0 but just ordered some 4/0 and 5/0 last night. Started out to tie some smaller inshore stuff but got carried away and went into marlin mode.

Me, planning on dredging? that's absolutely something I want to do. I'll add some tan/white clousers and black stuff for grouper and pargo. A big cubera is up there on the wish list... actually along with pretty much everything else.
