The N. Umpqua is closed. The main is open, but bereft of anything beyond the occasional ditch-pickle that hasn't burrowed into the mud for the winter yet. So I'm taking the opportunity to work on some new skills that I think will advance my fishing satisfaction; creating and consuming the perfect cup in the field. My mocha pot skills are significant. Truth be known they probably eclipse my fly fishing skills. I seem to be a natural at it. I did make one mental error; no pot of cold water to stop the brew from over boiling at the end. By the time I walked the pot to the river to cool it down the brew became a bit bitter. I won't make that mistake again. The brew was still enjoyable and I was casting absolute darts with my 7130 and a pointless hook (fishing is legal on the main Umpqua, but I didn't want to run the risk of having my coffee drinking interrupted with fighting a fish however miniscule that chance was).
