Rod Building Creek Rod Questions

Here’s a question for you avid creek fisherman. What is your favorite rod sizes and weights for creek fishing.? Is fiberglass vs graphite something you prefer.? I’m looking to build some small, custom rods this Winter and wonder what would appeal to you all. I just built myself a 7’6” 3# s-glass rod for panfish, on the cheap, and was happily surprised with the quality of the materials available off the web..

I prefer the Icono-glass to the s-glass. A 7’6” 3# icono-glass rod seems like a perfect creek rod to me! (If they make such a blank.)

I agree on the Iconoglass, great rods and not overpriced by any means. Of course, inflation, tariffs, etc. has hit the materials needed for fly rods also. My goal is trying for less cost on this next go-around , like $120-$140 delivered and still being able to offer a decent little rod..
I think there are some less cost options, nowadays, that offer some pretty good functionality..

I scored a 6'-6" 2-weight Fetha-Styx (complete with a lifetime warranty :ROFLMAO:). It's an absolute delight to fish small mountain creeks. A six inch brookie will bend the rod almost into the cork. I'd love to try a similar length glass rod.

I use the Orvis Superfine Glass 7'6" 3 weight. If I were to do it again, I would probably go for a 2wt.
I frequently fish a 7’6” 2-wt Redington CT on the creeks, and there are definitely some creeks/small rivers where I wish for a 3 weight, or if there’s any wind, which usually there isn’t but…

What I love so much about my 7'6" 4wt glass rod is that it is the most versatile rod I have ever owned for small creeks. I can throw tiny dries, hopper-droppers, or a small sculpin...all with relative ease and it is enjoyable. Wind is never fun, but it can handle it reasonably well. I have some wonderful lighter graphite rods (TMF, AW Chalkstream Light, TXL), but they each seem to excel at one thing or another. The glass rod feels like it does them all well.

I think it would depend on what the creek's your fishing are like? I have a 7'9" Sage LL 2wt as my small creek rod.
If I were targeting brush, heavily tree lined creeks, I think a 6'6" rod would be better suited. Wind and a 2 wt are not high on
the fun meter but heavily treed are protected from wind so it's not an issue. Can't go wrong with bamboo or glass.
That's my 2 cents worth.
