Etiquette/Manners Question.

I dont think people think, and some feel entitled. I tend to think you just have to roll with it whether right or wrong. You can’t control other people but you can control your own reaction. That being said I can get quite irritated with people screwing up my fishing hole especially when I am on the bank. So, I am Work In Process.

Bingen marina drama! I would have been annoyed too, but probably would have just chalked it up to people being idiots and moved off.

After 2 days of a lovely float trip on the river just east of there I had a little incident on my way out. After not seeing a boat for almost 2 full days I was rowing out a little late, so I was pushing my way down stream when I came upon the pack of guide boats about 2 miles from the ramp. I pushed past most of them but the last guy pulls anchor right on front of me and starts rowing like hell right next to me. I wasn't pushing super hard, just enough to get up my momentum. After a minute or two of rowing next to each other I just had to look over and ask if we were racing? He then decided to fish one more spot... gotta love that pack mentality.
Too bad they don't row that hard downstream all the time. 😁

Breck, like many others I know the song well myself. Two things that hit me from your post - one, Ohio seems to be the capital of "that" behavior. As in, the word etiquette does not exist here. Kind of makes it easier, I just expect it as part of public space. Everyone here seems to be used to it. When in Rome I guess.

Secondly, if memory serves me you're all class on the water, a good example of how it should be. So makes perfect sense the dog lady would be annoying as hell (I've been 'dogged' many times out here, always a pleasant experience). Anyhow, I think that was you I sent the thank you note to, years ago, when you stayed opposite me at Pass. The banks were on fire and I believe it was just us. Your move kept us both on a lot of fish and I never did surpass the number from that day 👍👍

You need to pretty much expect anything these days and just be ready to deal with it. I personally wouldn’t get too worked over a bass spot, but I would usually just move on, it’s not worth getting into it with dog people, they are fucking crazy to the core.

Convenience of close locations vs getting out and away from it all. 2-3 hours vs 5-6 to get to a fishing destination, talking combination drive and hike in to. Very few willing to spend more than a couple of hours each way to drive/ hike in and out/drive out for fishing. 4 hours total of non fishing. These spots will become more desirable for those that can.

And as in most cases as the sun sets the river is always fishing better around the next bend. 😆. Gotta go there 😬

Bravo to you for keeping your cool! Let me take a gander…. 40-70 year old caucasian female that believes that all she touches is her space with zero regards for others? I had a similar situation with a dude while fishing the Arkansas the other day, I stewed knowing he was coming down with his dog, and I finally firmly said “I’m fishing here.” Thankfully he received the message moved along without any drama. With your situation, I’m far too Alpha and I don’t take crap and would have escalated with her. Hate to get to that point but sometimes bullies need to be put in their place. I’ll say it again, bring back fighting on the playground in grade school, people will treat each other with more respect.

I agree. But you also have to bring back scoring and winning and losing in little league sports. Trophy for everyone is ruining ability to deal, accept, cope, reflect, adjust, overcome, adapt, improvise, improve, and find a way to navigate life.

Bingo!

A lot of people dont take their dogs out for any exercise so I guess I would just be happy for the pup and just move on to a new fishing spot. The women is totally at fault and it would annoy me on one hand but i'm going to assume she didn't know....and at least fido got out🐕

Dogs rule! They respond to their master and do not know better. Just happy that the dog got some exercise. Most dogs love the water also.

We would take our black lab out to a half acre spot behind our house on the lake. Go Miles go! He would race around the edges of the property several times, then turn it up a notch and run of the end of a 40 foot dock into the lily pads and swim back in. Same thing again. Tail always wagging. So much fun to watch.

A major part of Emotional Intelligence includes controlling one's immediate impulses....including displays of temper.

We've all known people whose lives are a mess because every perceived offense triggers instant anger because they're ruled by the old lizard brain.

That being said, everybody needs to stay the hell off my lawn.

I remember that day well. :)

Next time this happens you should try a different angle to the dialog.

You:
"Beautiful dog you have there, but I like your jeans (other article of clothing) even more."

Karen:
"Thank you, uhh. Excuse me?"

You:
Smile warmly, maintain pleasant eye contact.

Karen:
Hesitates, looks around for an authority figure.

You:
Reach for your phone.
"Mind if I take a photo?"

Karen:
Rapidly retreats with dog and ball to a more secure part of the public park.
Dime is your photo album mainly various pictures of random women in mom jeans?

If it is.... have I ever got the video for you....

I have had people with dogs on the beach attack my fly, jump in the water where I am fishing, or just yesterday guy in a Kayak park behind my boat keeping me for backcasting even after I warn him of a possible hook coming his way.

I agree, these kids nowadays would not survive the 50's and 60's when ,and where I grew up . It was survival of the fittest . :) It was outside from sunup to sundown if the weather didn't chase us indoors .

If my initial plan doesn't work, I would escalate by playing Dr Hook loudly on the boat boom box. Eye patch optional.
