Thanks, was gonna mention that. But, I think it was accomplished via sneakernet, not internet.

This got me thinking alot dammit!

I went and reviewed my non-FDIC insured investment accounts to find out what they were doing to protect my investments. They are doing a lot in-house e.g. large, dedicated staff using the latest technology, plus what is occurring on the backend. Glad I am using a large corporation and not a independent broker I used to have...

Feel free to look at the recent history or even the present of communist China and tell me they are on par. Slavery. Harsh treatment of native Americans and the treatment of returning vets from Vietnam, the three great American atrocities don't even come close to comparing to China . Just under Mao a death toll of 55 million. The great leap forward they called it.
Nothing America has done even comes close.
You want American Ai not Chinese even if you won't acknowledge it. It really is a one or the other choice. Just like the cold war, we have to win this.
 
@Rob Allen - you knew you were being baited into a trap. Why fall for it? You know better! Why not just sit back and think 'if only they knew' with a smile on your face? Much more powerful IMHO...

Not a trap. I wanted to hear more about eastern and western values. I learned that eastern values = Chinese government actions for Rob, and I guess US government actions = western values.

In the context of a discussion of AI it is. And it boils down to value for human life. The moment we devalue human life our freedom goes away. Yes we are superior to the Chinese in that regard.

Samuel Marks, who leads scalable oversight at the company, similarly said AI developers believe their technology could cause “human extinction” or other bad outcomes in the next few years.

Thank you for sharing this article along with your insights. Like the Climate Crisis and others, there are always three phases, (1) never happen, snarks among us, and of course, "Chicken Little" (2) It's too late to change it now! There's nothing you can do about it (3) Damn, we could have, should have, regrets, and despair. Much like your informative posts, journalism in this country is under siege much like it was in the late 1930s when journalists were called the "Enemy of the People". I commend you for what you do on this forum despite the Neros of the world.

You really don't understand what AI is do you ?

There's already models from dozens of countries, and it's not like the world is going to adopt one standard AI model, and then dispose of all the rest.
It's like saying 'you want American nuclear bombs, not Russian nuclear bombs', in the 50's, and then spend the next 30 years claiming your bombs are better.. when everybody knows both sides have them and they're destructive if used.

Every country that is developing AI will have a version of AI, and those that are not developing AI currently will just buy, steal or partner with a country that has it.
