Solid day off the beach. Landed 5, lost a good number of others. Hook to land ratio has been subpar the last few outings. Biggest landed was a 5-6 lb unclipped fish. Kept my first keeper of the day and released a few others in the same class to hopefully get a better one. About when I was ready to wrap, I got a slightly better one that came home as well.

0-2 this morning in 11. Same for the two other chaps grinding it out - is it worth poking around 10 in the morning?

I got blanked in 10 this morning but it’s always worth a try. I saw several nice jumpers that unfortunately weren’t on the end of my line.
Boat guys have been doing well in 10 though. I talked to the fish checker at Shilshole around noon and 140 coho had been checked. It ended up being 275 for the day on the creel report….plus two chinook.

Took 2 buddies out in the Lowe today. I met them both in college back in the fall of 1986. Been life-long friends ever since...thru good times and bad.
I'm the jerk that got them both into fly fishing and bird hunting. We did tons of days and trips together back in the 80s & 90s, but then kids happened.
We would still do 2 or 3 trips per year together, but the last couple years have been tough. The dude taking the selfie (or is it an usie?) had a heart attack in Sept of 2024 and then a brain infection August of 2025. Yeah, that damn near got him.

We launched from Manchester. Upon arrival I gazed out at all the crab pots and remembered the whole weird Sunday & Monday crabbing thing. Ugh....great. Tons of pots where I wanted to fish, but we found some nice open water.
We started slow, but then had a decent couple of hours where we all landed a few cutts. Nothing huge. I think this handsome guy of 14" was our biggest of the day.



Then the wind died and it got slow. Good time for a nice boat lunch & beers. It was good to catch up.
We caught a couple more dinks and the guy in back briefly hooked a salmon. I saw his rod on the take and the 10 second fight, but we never saw the fish. Definitely a salmon. Or a MA10 record cutt.

Just as we started to head back to the takeout, I heard what I thought was a boat slapping a wave, but my buddy pointed out and said "Orca!!" I had heard the big male Jack (T137A) take a big breath. He was riding shotgun with Flapjack (T36) her whole family. They got everyone's attention...both in the boats and on land. Pretty cool with the city in the background. Just summer in Seattle.

By then, it was time to head back. We got the last open spot at the dock, I grabbed the truck and got out of there surprisingly quick which was good since selfie guy had a plane to catch.

I dropped off one guy in Tacoma and the other at Sea-Tac, all with the Lowe in tow. He got to his terminal 5 minutes before they started boarding. Some days it works out.

It was my 3rd consecutive day fishing. It was a good day.

Made it out to a beach this morning that is close enough to my work to be convenient for morning fishing sessions. Brought the 8wt along in an effort to try and manifest some migratory salmon action but settled for a couple 8-10 inch cutts. Not a bad way to watch the sunrise though.

3/6 today, all fish I landed were hatchery. The one I released I snagged in the back. Felt good after being skunked yesterday.

Had a super fun day today. Shout out to @KFCDAVE for cleaning one of my fish for me. He carefully saved the eggs and even scaled it on the beach. Top notch service. My mind was blown

Finally got a Coho off my local beach tonight. Hooked one last night too but it managed to throw the hook right before I pulled it onto shore.

Vale, weird metal tube....

The wrecks have changed, paddling out to see what's going on there is always interesting, but some of the weirdness is no longer.

this was the most striking piece that has fallen, the last time I have a photo of it upright was 9/2025. It's not exactly hard to imagine this was going to collapse! (there's an otter in this photo btw)

Almost the entire wreck to the right in this photo has fallen about 10 feet, no surprise, this part has the strongest tides and takes the most weather. Bummed it's gone, this backdrop was so damn apocalyptic and weird for a long while...

Late June and early July eagle families hang at high tide, they still go there, but never gonna get a photo like this one there again !

Farewell weird metal tube, you brought me great joy!



One of the other wrecks has been intentionally torched as well, it's still upright but it's a bummer to see it destroyed...

I caught a slab of a wild coho buck this morning that gave a great fight. There is nothing like a true wild MA9 coho on the fly rod, the unclipped hatchery fish can't be compared. Thanks for the photos @Stonedfish ! A beautiful September day on the beaches.

Fished yesterday and today on @jasmillo boat, with yesterday being much better than today thanks to calmer wind and earlier tide exchange. We were once able to find several pods of coho on the surface in over 150 fow which was wild, so much fun sight casting to them. I caught the biggest one of the weekend this way, a clipped hot fish that we decided to let go so we can keep fishing



We’ve already had 3 in the boat and it was still early.
Also caught fish on divers/flies and jigs as well.

That was a blast Saturday chasing those pods around. They were not super bitey but enough to make it a really fun time. We also caught fish three different ways this weekend. Fly, troll (divers and fly) and jigs. Can’t beat casting to porpoising coho and coming tight though!

We were once able to find several pods of coho on the surface in over 150 fow which was wild, so much fun sight casting to them. I caught the biggest one of the weekend this way, a clipped hot fish that we decided to let go so we can keep fishing

@Kfish @jasmillo Dang! I got a Minnkota Terrova with the Spot Lock, but have not used it yet for silver fishing. How is it working for you? Keep you on the pods?
