AI and Flyfishing

Use Google lens...
If the picture has enough background, the results,while not always right in the AI summary, usually contain a matching picture in the images below the summary...

Not perfect, but for me, it's usually identifiable in a few minutes.

I've tried it all...
It's not there yet.
Trust me.

When it is there, you'll see a report from me with 30"+ cutts from a high alpine lake. That's when you'll know it works.
 
Sorry I've had an out of town friend staying with me and we've been out fishing and doing other non-computery things.

Most of what I'd say is already covered by you guys. There honestly isn't a whole lot that can be done as far as hiding our information we post here. Locking it up to "members only" would make it unsearchable, which is bad for keeping the place alive.

That said, I'm not 100% opposed to a "members only" subforum that is only open to supporters. Though I fear by doing that, we'd end up with most of our content there, and we run back into the issue I stated above. So I'm not sure I really do have a solution.
 
Well...
With enough background and skyline in the pic, I seem to be able to identify most every lake on this forum...in the 80 % range I'd guess.

If theres no skyline or background its way more difficult of course, but with so many pucs posted on the web, there's almost always a match, just a question of time you want to put into it I suppose...I'm only good for a few minutes, short attention span

PS, this is a test. Its a well known lake.
But even with almost the entire lake and the skyline in view, id bet no AI gets it.

Thats definitely it, Zak almost got it. He was VERY close.

So thats a very popular lake, with the entire shore and skyline visible, taken from a very popular vantage point.

Now start changing those parameters up and you'll very quickly start getting no results. Or even worse, confident wrong results.

It's not always easy, but it's not always difficult either.

Like I mentioned, most of the pics here with a skyline or broad background can be identified by Google Lens, and that's just what's on my phone, I'm not going to do a deep search on those sorts of things, just a quick click if I am curious.

Searching millions of images, it doesn't always get it right, but hey....
It gets most of them, at least for for my curiosity level anyway.
Now let's see the link to the 30" Cutts, and I'll try and identify that fir ya...

Google gave me a dry fly Spey leader formula that worked great a couple weeks back!

It's okay to tell the world the how; the where (and sometimes when) is what we need to protect. Fishing the wrong water effectively yields less success than fishing the right water like a hack 9/10... or is it 99/100?

Unbeknownst to most (and even myself until now), this is exactly why I share mostly "in the cooler" and "on the gravel bar" pics of dead fish... poor entertainment, but quality location protection.

...actually, it's mostly because I'm lazy and rarely think to take pics, but...

Is anyone on here smart on how AI learns? Would it help to create a thread where we post lake pictures and give them all the wrong names?

I recall a podcast about how AI was essentially stealing artistic styles using all of the images available online to create new images in the same style. They (artists and advocates) fought back by deliberately feeding the model conflicting information.

This points out the biggest risk with Internet-fed AIs: They make decisions, like an analyst does, based on data trends. If you feed an AI enough misinformation, it can be convinced to provide wrong answers to important questions. And what is the Internet (much as we love it) absolutely full of?
