NFR Data Centers near you?

Non-fishing related
"Hmmmmmphh, if you use Google or AI, then you are hypocrite for criticizing data centers!"

So let me ask you a couple of questions:

If you eat food, are you allowed to criticize food supply chains? Or must you stay silent?

If you drive a car, are you allowed to ask questions about transportation policies? Or must you stay silent?

If you own a phone, are you allowed to discuss privacy rules, EMF emissions, and their use by children in schools? Or must you stay silent?
I think the answer to all of those questions is, just because you use something does not mean you are forbidden from asking questions, discussing the pros and cons of that thing, or criticizing any aspects of that thing which concern you.

So, yes, you can use Google and AI ... it does not make you hypocrite that you ask questions, discuss the issues, or criticize data centers, as that is how things can be improved, problems get solved, progress is made. Only the uneducated, unwilling to learn, unable to look forward don't realize this.

'My business' as it was put, is exactly what I choose it to be...

Do one Google search and you lose the ability to complain about data centers.
Just like driving your Tundra takes away your right to complain about global warming. Ohh your Subaru too, you know the one you drive half way across the state every other weekend?

We are all hypocrites

I'm sorry that is how simple this issue is.

Rob that's always going to be true-ish, and framing it that way helps win arguments with similar peers, on the other hand dichotomies are often not super helpful, there's shades of gray, and without structuring decisions based on proportion and probability we are condemned to mediocrity.

If someone says:

If you like to eat toast, don't complain about global warming

That's the exact kind of footsoldier I would hire to help construct a massive AI datacenter under the supervision of a competent foreman.

I guess the irony is coding in binary is dichotomous, and on the other hand, AI is trying to nail the proportion and probability part.

The insertion of AI generated nonsense has in general reduced the value of search engines in my experience. Nonsensical articles that just repeat a few keywords over and over but never share any real expertise on a subject. I'm gonna go ahead and try to use the internet, and I'm gonna complain about the decrease in quality.
I never asked a computer to read the internet for me, digest it and regurgitate the nonsense the machine makes out of it. I was just looking for some knowledge put out there by a human that knows something I don't.

Apparently there are over 125 Data Centers spread throughout our state with early and smaller hubs in metro Seattle-Tacoma and the larger centers in Central and Eastern WA near cheap hydro power. Would love to hear your thoughts/reactions to the DCs that are near you. Were you aware of their implementation?, were you informed as to giving you public input?, were you aware of the water related issues?, were you aware of the energy related issues?, did protests occur, etc.
What are they even good for ?

Shades of gray are how people justify bad behavior or hypocrisy.

If data centers are bad. We ought not use them at all.. not dealing with things this way is what leads to mediocrity. If we want to actually make the world a better place we have to pursue excellence which always requires sacrifice and sacrifice is antithetical to modern Americans as evidenced by our personal and national debt.

Don't want data centers? Quit using the internet. Use the internet? Don't complain about data centers near you.

I'm sorry that is how simple this issue is.

Now, go use your phone to organize a protest rally.

it would be nice if the data centers pay for their elec. requirements - kind of like when u get a building permit, and need to pay for local elec and water capacity requirements.

I wish I could figure out how to make my email stop summarizing my emails. Most of the time the summary is at least somewhat incorrect.

This is what I have noticed about the current state of Google AI. I type in a search query phrase. I quickly see a graphic of internet url icons cycling and usually get several returns like reddit where it appears the subject has been discussed by laypeople and very few authoritative sites where there are specialists in the field with knowledge supported by peer reviewed studies and empirical data

Well if debt is bad, we ought not use it all...

Haha! I think the billion dollar companies building these data centers could probably afford to build them without convincing the county to steal/change your property.

What's the saying? There's more than one way to skin a cat. Grant County PUD was in a great position to call the shots, but instead just caved to the man and told all of its residents that they could care less about your personal property. Would love to see the commissioners bank statements the next few years.

The arguments are beyond absurd. There is so much wrong, including the straw man argument (that no one made) that data centers are bad. If you follow the faulty logic, only those who do not participate in society would have the "right" to complain (but then how would they complain).

We have every "right" to complain, in hopes that things will be made better. To not complain and just accept the way things are results in a race to the bottom, not the mediocrity claimed, ie, what would be the incentive make improvements. Complaining and demanding quieter, energy efficient data centers is not just a right, it is a responsibility. To demand that data centers and their corporate owners pay a premium for the electricity and water they use, rather than subsidized rates, will incentivize change.

I will complain, and I will do so without being a hypocrite.

I wish there was a button to turn off AI in my browser.

AI already accomplished large improvements in the medical field:

It is going to need data centers to accomplish this and more.

That's the real problem Ai/ data centers.. the choices are already made. They are coming. The choices now are where to put them. They need lots of power and lots of water. That should limit the choices. Quite frankly we need to ramp up our energy production, like yesterday.

The whole opposition to data centers? That ship sailed before it was even built.
