we used to do that on the willamette during the spring salmon run.Wifey reeled in a nice king Sunday night.
I always look forward to the E Bay Seafair weekend opener, crowds and all. Where else in the world can you catch salmon under the downtown skyline???

I think we were neighbors today - if you’re the guy my first fish swam toward before it spit the hook. Glad you got one to the beach! The seals made it interesting.2/2 this morning, one smaller wild and a fat rezzie brought to hand. I felt the weight of about 3-4 solid fish before they let go (might of done better with the standard clouser today and not the stinger), and had a few more very solid bites. Tons of herring around, schools of them were moving up and down the beach for almost the entire 3-4 hours I was fishing.

I was in that area of the beach for sure. Thankfully the seal left before I landed my two fish, that thing is not afraid of people at allI think we were neighbors today - if you’re the guy my first fish swam toward before it spit the hook. Try fishing down wind from an honest to god quilbilly...it could gag a maggot...for real...I got stories.0 for 1 for me today. I whiffed my shot at the rod tip.
Speaking of whiffed, I had the pleasure of fishing downwind from High Karate or Aramis man today. The swimmer has nothing on this guy when it comes to fragrances. He either used the whole bottle or bathed in it.

2nd slow weekend in row with just a few hovering around the “legal/sublegal” 16” threshold of the ol’VTR. Good to see others having some success.
The current actually set up really nicely at Beach 1 right after you left, and an unbelievable amount of bait pushed right onto shore. Bunches of herring doing that thing where they make popping sounds on the surface. Aaaand still absolutely no action - the big jumpers stayed 500 or so ft offshore. Glad you were eventually rewarded with a fish.Another day grinding it out. Took three beaches and nearly another full day to get a single keeper. Potentially could have been quicker if I could keep a fish pinned. Still only 4 hooked adult fish, with three again coming in the last hour or so I was fishing.

Are you sure they were herring and not other more nefarious underwater sounds? Reminded me of the Red Herring incident. Transcript and full audio to one of the best Radiolab episodes I heardBunches of herring doing that thing where they make popping sounds on the surface.

Great story. And if there’s a good conspiracy theory to explain why I’m not catching, then I’m absolutely going full tin foil hat.Are you sure they were herring and not other more nefarious underwater sounds?
