I'm a very basic tyer. I like simple body materials that look "buggy", variegated feathers that suggest movement, subtle flash and contrast.
I often substitute olive ice dubbing for peacock herl to get more durability with a similar holographic appearance. I also think it looks even more buggy if picked out and as fish start chewing on it.
I also use holographic glitter fingernail polishes as head cement in various colors to match or add hotspots
