Summer is here and the bullfrogs are croaking also. I am now hearing 3 different ones. Such a distinctive sound when communicating with each other.

A quick note: we had our adoption group over for annual get together . A bullfrog was croaking and we asked what it was
Best guess was a cow. LOL.

I did see a bullfrog. The eyes were the size of marbles. Amazing!

I'm torn on bull frogs. On one hand, I really like them - I think they're a fascinating frog, and ya gotta love how big they are and that awesome call they put out, or how they screech when they're startled and jump from pond edge into the pond. On the other hand, they're pretty damn invasive.

Either way, I'm getting pretty good at netting them. Makes for fun sidebar activity with the kids when the fish aren't cooperating.

Invasive bullfrogs? Get yourself a headlamp, a frog gig, and a deep fryer. Problem solved. Got lots of fond childhood memories of frog gigging with my dad.

My best friend just took some panish poppers I tied up, caught a few bullfrogs, and cooked them up. Sounds like a blast!

Never thought about that! Bullfrogs on a 2 or 3wt would be a lot of fun!
Guess I should take off the NFR designation on this thread.

When I was young and living in Alabama, we did a lot of frog gigging. Like you, fond memories...

I had an Uncle that used to do that.

He and I were the only ones in the family that would eat them. That was almost seventy years ago and I still remember how tasty the legs were.

I remember good experienced frog/toad hunters using these:

Camping one night last summer the frogs were LOUD. Several of them from all around and then all at once they would go silent. I could see one of them going quiet if there was a predator near but wonder why all of them at the same time?

A simultaneous stop,,, I’ve also wondered why/how they do that.

It’s similar to how a flock of Dunlins turn instantly in unison while in flight.

You guys are funny.
Growing up in Southern Oregon was great time as a kid.
We used to catch a few bull frog tad poles and watch them grow up into frogs and then release them back where we found them.

Had a wrist rocket & a pocket full of 44 caliber round lead balls. Got a big bulldog right between the eyes once. Satisfying SMACK and he went over, remember his legs coming up before he sank into the murk.

only took me about 20 shots before I got a hit, had plenty of targets.

We figured out why that campground was empty, when the cacophony of the bullfrog started at about 8:00 p.m. and went all night 🤕

I really hope you meant bullfrog, and not bulldog! 😦
