Furthest Travel to Fish

I actually got to do some beach fishing off of the Vung Tau peninsula during several R&R trips in 1969. Cool place back then.
That's cool, we used to go there for a day trip to the beach when I was young. I was born 7 years after your time in Vietnam :)

IN THE MARRIOT-LEVEL BUSINESS CLASS HOTEL ROOMS!!! Circa May 2024. That's when the aforementioned fishing events were frequently being held.

Back when i was about 13 I would bike everywhere to fish for carp. One time I rode about 9 miles to get to the fishing. That's damn well near an Odyssean Journey to a 13-year-old

It was then I came to realize the journey is just as enjoyable as the destination

Ah who am I kidding, I learned very little about myself, the fish, my techniques, bicycling, or my friend who often and sometimes reluctantly went with me. Maybe except 9 miles is maximum radius to ride to fish for carp in summer with handlines and corn and still feel like it was worthwhile.

Only 9, phsss, kids these days 🤣
Starting around 9/10 we woul ride from Maltby road to Bothell, up to Mayrimore park, back down to Woodinville on the Gilmore trail, then home, all on BMX bikes!

My parents would make me wait until it was light enough to bike. Steelhead fishing for a young kid on a bike would freeze my fingers off before even getting to the water. Take a quarter for an emergency phone call. Back went kids actually pedaled their bikes. Not long journeys but memorable arduous ones.

New Zealand. Back when it was cheap to do it. Moved out of my rental, stored my stuff and went to NZ for a couple of months ands actually saved money.

Back when I was a teenager I used to regularly bike 25 miles + to fish.

4,950 miles one way to CXI for me, definitely going to do it again. The worst part of being in AK is the extra 1k miles and 1 day of travel it takes to get to world destination fisheries.

OTOH, I'm only 3 miles from my closest steelhead stream and less than 500yds from my front door to world-class chinook, coho, and char fishing...

Florida. Have been to Europe and Mexico, but no fishing (it was a sad, misguided chapter in my life). Want to go just about every point abroad named in the thread but probably will only make a few, which is fine; the American West is still pretty awesome for a trout bum at heart.

Dudes in the European version of this thread on like some theoretical version of say "FlyFishers of Silasia" are probably super jealous of guys who get to regularly fish Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington etc... Maybe this is just showing my ignorance, but It seems to me the Cedar River in Renton, if it was in Europe, would probably be a blue-ribbon trout stream...

Sorry, no epic journeys but the 400 yard hike to the local crick as a kid was heaven. The local hatchery would periodically release 'Bows into the creek, but the naturally occurring & thriving big Browns were pure treasure. I started with a spinning rod & bait and eventually fell in love with bamboo fly rods & a dry Adams there in due time.
