AIS inspection sites between Seattle and Butte

It's more likely inflated on the trailer for the trip home and inspectable in that configuration, so I might stop. When I wash and dry either of these, they get a more detailed inspection than occurs at a state inspection station, so I'm confident that I'm not spreading invasives.
I have been at a Montana AIS station when they saw a vehicle going by without stopping, and the inspectors immediately called law enforcement (I'm assuming State Patrol or whatever Montana's equivalent is). I was being inspected so I don't know if the truck got pulled over, but I know they were reported.

When did you experience the Cle Elum one as quick? If it's lately, that's good news. I sure hope it's quicker than the times I've stopped there. The first stop was about 25 minutes and the 2nd time was almost 15. I haven't stopped the last few times. I check and clean my raft and boat so I'm not too thrilled about wasting even 15 minutes for them so do essentially the same thing. I can't be the only one.

Have fun!
On 5/24/26 they were quick. We groaned as there were 3 power boats in line as we pulled up but one pulled away and there were 2 people working with noticeable hustle. The one guy was jogging around and jogged up to our rig. It only took 5 minutes, maybe a 10 minute total detour. Also the boat hadn’t been in the water in 2 years. But still, they were making a real effort.

There’s a westbound station hwy 12 just before the climb up to McDonald Pass outa Helena.

The stops for me are a nice break. The fees in ID and MT sorta suck, but, whatever.

$7.50 with your non resident fishing license, $10.00 for each non motorized non resident watercraft, and $30.00 for motorized.

Between Utah, Idaho ,and Montana , it gets a bit expensive for me ,AIS , fishing licenses etc , I usually buy the two pole permit for Idaho , so Idaho costs me the most . Got the boat all stickered up , ready to go . :) Not complaining ,just the price to pay to do what I like . Will be in Montana for a good portion of the summer here shortly .

I equate the cost to the number of 20$ hamburgers it would buy and crap out and suddenly don't feel so bad. :ROFLMAO:

The westbound Cedars Inspection Station at the base of 4th of July Pass is easy to miss currently for those who are unfamiliar with it as it resides inside the construction zone at the far west end of the chain up area. Returning back to 90 after the inspection is extra sporty as you must merge in to the single file traffic and accelerate up the grade immediately.

ID has a mandatory decontamination policy for any boat coming out of contaminated waters in the last 30 days, regardless of previous decontamination and inspection at said water. I had my rig washed & tagged to the trailer at the takeout in AZ with full paperwork in hand before heading N last month. As soon as I hit Franklin I received a state mandated wash down before being released and by the time I made it to Dillon the rig was coated with ice and road grime. They held me there for an hour before the supervisor at the other end of the line allowed them to release me. The supervisor aka game warden was waiting for me at the Anaconda inspection station. When we reached the Cedars Inspection Station we were greeted with “We’ve been waiting for you.”

There was a list of contaminated boats who had been locked to their trailers w/registration numbers and the water they came out of on the inside of this shack at the Dillon station. Communications amongst inspection stations, state organizations and enforcement authorities appears strong.

I didn't know that I could get my boat checked in WA and then be good for MT. I was under the impression I had to have the raft checked in the state I was planning on using it in. I have only done this once so I'm not that up on how it all works but stopped at the St Regis one a couple years ago. Didn't realize I could have stopped at any other one along the way and been good.
