Official 2026 MLB Discussion Thread

Do you think that's fixed like wrestling?
Pretty sure the salmon race is legit. It takes a lot of dedication to dress up like that in public and run in one of those costumes.
On the other hand I'm not so sure about the MLB. With that computerized fangled ball-n-strike thingy there are people using computers that could put the ball just about anywhere they want it.

And make the players tap their own heads too.
Perhaps instead of handing out bobbleheads thay will start handing out tinfoil batting helmets next?

Complainers about human umps, now complainers about the computerized strike zone. No winning.

The thing I have found rather impressive is just how good the umps actually are. Most misses are by less than an inch. You try calling a pitch moving 90 to 100 mph, often with a bend, to within an inch. The other thing, umps have been trained for years to call the pith at the front of the strike zone, ie, when it crosses the front of the plate. The computerized zone measures at the middle, which may account for some of those misses.

Either way, I think and have always thought the human umps do a far better job than most have wanted to credit them for.

I've been umpireing some of my grandsons games. It ain't easy. Man things happen quick. The kids say I do ok calling balls and stikes, although always a couple I'm sure I got wrong. Been running the scoreboard too. Hard to see everything, just happens so fast.

Mariners have had an up and down season for sure. Frustrating to watch.

With that said, they are now above 500 and in 1st place. Unbelievable!

I am very happy I get to watch almost all games on the Mariners network. Lots better than the news and great for my mental health...

The first place M's will have an enviable problem upon the healthy return of Brendon Donovan. They're gonna have a hard time keeping that 20 year old new kid off the field.

The first place M's do have an enviable problem with 6 very good to great starting pitchers.

They're edging up to .540

Mariners catcher Mitch Garver just sold his house near Bellevue. Is something in the offing?

Cal's coming back. Perada is batting close to 300, Mitch below 200 and they typically carry 2 catchers. You may be on to something.

Thoughts on the performance against the Orioles tonight? I was not too impressed watching at T-Mobile Park but watching the highlights there was a real solid effort at the bottom of the 9th. Wish I could've stayed for the whole game!

Mariners have a lot of injuries for both key players in the bullpen and on the field.

They are in first place and considering all the injuries, are doing better than expected.

Wilson is juggling a lot challenges and is doing better than expected IMHO. He is bringing up talented players to give them exposure to the big leagues and determine if they are ready. Looks promising. He is looking toward the rest of the season. I like that.

Looking forward to a team with most/alll players available. If that happens, might get into the playoffs.
