Official 2026 MLB Discussion Thread

Not 'til tomorrow for my Royals, who had 2 players on the WBC champion Venezuela team, including the MVP (Maikel Garcia) of the tournament and the Captain of the team (future HoFer, Salvador Perez).

Go Royals!!

I just discovered that DirecTv is carrying some of the Mariners games, not sure how many, but it is encouraging...

"SEAM" is on cable in our county. We get it because the "more sports and entertainment" package is required for Turner Classic Movies.

Good series with the M's and Cleveland. Delauter is turning heads; Kwan and Ramirez just wearing pitchers out. I only got to watch the 2 games the M's lost because... not sure, it's the newfangled TV. Slow start for Julio as per usual, but his swing looks better than the start of last year and he seems to be seeing the ball better; he's not falling every time for the slider away in the dirt thrown at him. Donavan is a keeper. Didn't expect Hancock to throw 6 shutout inning; good for him.

Currently, subject ro change, all 3 Yankee/Mariner games will be broadcasted ...

Going to be an interesting season

Use technology and it's way overdue. Old men with mediocre eyesight making million dollar decisions.

I thought I read where the Ai Umps were not really all that accurate either.

I’ll stick with the human factor.

While it's hard to dispute "Let the players play ball"! What does Baseball become without bad calls?

For example, does the very fabric of baseball, that reflects many generations of American society's values, evolution, and challenges, benefit from the contrast of the amazing precision required to use gravity, drag, and the Magnus force to put crazy deceptive movement on a 2.9" diameter ball into a 3 to 4 square foot strike zone at an average of 94-95 mph from 60.5 away, for a hitter to try to make contact with a 2.6" diameter bat to hit the ball over the fence or into a slice of the field where it can't be caught, against bad - clumsy balls and strike calls by unquestionable umpires exercising absolute authority?

MLB ejections really only occur in a relatively few 6% of games, with well over half being due to disputes over calling of balls and strikes. But how many baseball games, movies, and even cartoons weave player, or manager confrontations with an umpire as a colorful part of its story.1774929130270.jpeg

I think they want consistency and accuracy.
Get rid of the blatant human error.
