Pretty sure this is the same group of people that uses speakerphone on its loudest setting in restaurants and other public spaces.
I'm a big promoter of headphones - you want your music? Headphones are the solution.
I personally don't do music outdoors at all. Not even when I'm doing my distance running sessions. When I'm outside, I want to hear the outside. But it's getting increasingly more difficult. There's a paved running/bike trail near me, and there's days where I'm getting passed by endless dweebs on their e-bikes, ALL blasting music. I had a day two weeks ago where I had no less than a half dozen e-bikes all have loud bluetooth speaker music blasting. It's just the worst.... If it gets any worse, I may have to acquiesce and just start wearing headphones so at least I can hear my own music and not theirs.
You will hear less of it if you switch from paved/gravel bike trails to single track... and it basically vanishes 3-4 miles from a trailhead. I'm super friendly on the trail when I see others but I won't even say a hello to the speaker mafia.
I've been looking at boats and I'm amazed at the number of fishing boats with stereos that come standard. I just don't get it.
I'm even a little annoyed that outdoor retailers like REI sell bluetooth speakers.
