Snow Shred Season 2025 - 2026

Was half way to Crystal this morning when they closed SR410 up to the mountain. Rerouted to go to Alpental, but then heard that the power was out there, and that I90 was closed too. Turned around and went home. 14 inches of snow, but it was Friday the 13th…

The doc said "It could be worse, but it could be a lot better. This is a significant injury."
The PT said "This is not a career ending injury but it's a career altering injury."

This is my life for the foreseeable future. Got one more doc consult, a bunch of "pre-hab", then I suspect I go under the knife for multiple ligament and meniscus repair at some point in mid/late April.

Fun times! At least Trout is happy that I'm home more, but he's still confused why I'm so boring all of a sudden.

The offending terrain feature. Of all the things I've done on snow this is probably the most innocuous piece of terrain that I can think of to take me out. The smallest little jump in the kiddy park at the very bottom of Sun Peaks, literally meters from the hotel.

That's too bad, best wishes for a successful recovery.

Fuck dude. What a bummer!! Lots of dudes still tearing shit up with faux/reimagined ligaments, and i bet you can be one of them. Heal well buddy

Still some winter left dude. Just do what my dad always prescribed when we were sick or injured.

“Take a shit”. Then get back out there ;).

I kid…get better soon! Having tweaked a knee doing something waaay less cool than you (walking and stopping abruptly), I feel for you. Tomorrow will be my first day fishing in 5 weeks because of it. My longest stretch not fishing since I broke my casting hand 10+ years ago.

Best of luck Adam.
I’m not quite in the same boat as you, luckily no ligament damage. I had 50% of my meniscus removed recently due to a bucket handle tear. Hit the PT religiously.

Damn, that sucks Adam. Those views look awfully familiar. I tore my ACL and meniscus almost a year ago today. It’s a slow as shit recovery and can be frustrating but it does improve if you’re willing to work hard. Nice work getting into PT this early. I lost a lot of muscle mass before and after the surgery and it’s made the process more complicated. Being on crutches while the meniscus heals felt like the toughest part but allows for a lot of fly tying and trip scheming. I’ve found this recovery to be an opportunity to reconnect with some activities that I’ve gotten away from over the last decade. Biking, day hikes, and the gym have been sanity saving. Good luck with the surgery and reach out if you ever need some perspective or someone to complain to.

Thanks for the vibes folks. Sucks for sure, but I'll be back at some point (light groomers next spring?) I know a ton of folks that have gone down this road before and have fully recovered so I'm going to take my time, do what the Dr and PT says, and turn my "shred the slopes" energy into "shred the gym/recovery" energy for the time being. Maybe build some more fly rods. Maybe finally woodshed on the guitar. Maybe the Gal and Trout and I head back to Mexico for next winter.

Guessing these days are over but TBH they were over a long time ago.

Pretty sure you got your money's worth out of that knee.

You're probably right! 30 years on snow with ~22 at a somewhat professional level. The ER doc in Kamloops was shocked that this was my first ACL given the use/abuse I've subjected my body to. I've had a couple other "season modifying" injuries to both knees over the years but this is my first real big deal season ender with consequences into the summer and beyond.

Started off easy on Tamarack (a green), then we started skiing Huckleberry (an intermediate blue) for the rest of the midday. First time my DIL and the little one have skied it. They did great. Really thin in places, but I just love spring skiing.

Wow! I have never seen that little coverage there. Hope they make it to their last weekend celebration. Your sweater is a classic.

The sweater comes from an outfit called Delaine out of New Hampshire, and it's really nice, super comfortable. I just love sweater weather, like bamboo rods days, special occasions.
They have done a super job keeping us on the hill this year, but I'm really questioning if we'll get to next week. Rained hard up there all night. Not much chance of the rivers being blown out the last Saturday of May, it's coming down now:(

Been there done that on similar whimpy terrain. Mine might have been better than yours. I partial tore both ACL and PCL fracturing the tibial spine off the top of the tibia and wrecked medial meniscus in the dark ages of knee surgery 1984. Brilliant I tell you! But there is hope. I broke it in February mid season and was back on snow blue groomers and blacks with no moguls with just a strap on knee brace by November. I'm still ripping snow with only one old friend left doing it. The road bike is like magic for my old body. I got one more trip to mammoth in april before the snow looks real sad.

Times have changed and PT is so much better now. You will be back on it soon. Lindsey Vonn with her massive injury was on the bike 3 weeks post op!

Sad day today. Word went out the local hill's last day for public service will be 4/12, 3 weeks early. What a messed up Winter. I hope Summer won't be a disaster.

Golden lining. It's prime Springer and ditchpickle fishing. Pike$minnow season is opening early again.

Might have to give the whole Capr thing a shot. There a definitely enough of the fat barbled bastards around. Been watching drag and drop videos. I can do this.
