I downloaded an app called Merlin yesterday for bird identification. Haven't played with it much but it was recommended by a woman I met yesterday who was birding and shooting pictures with her friends

I spoke with a pilot who saw a couple of bears in the Frank Church last week.
That is serious shite right there.

Mosquito landed on me on Sunday. It also got squished. Made me think that I wasn't even carrying mosquito repellent with me this time of year. But I was wrong; it was in my pack.
Heard a story of a very novice photographer that was dropped off in bear country. The pilot and other guy asked if he had any bear protection. He said no, so they gave him some bear spray. As they flew to there spot they saw him wiping his face and neck furiously! He thought that bear spray way like bug spray and sprayed himself all over! Sad and funny at the same time! Don't do that!! Seriously!

Saw bees for the first time today along with the Erie Canal being ice free. Windy as hell but in the 60's is so nice.

Turkey vultures are back, along with the first of the Osprey.
Something about that says “fly” to me more than “bee,” but still… pollinators.
Granted it’s a poor and out of focus camera pic’, but it is of a honey bee on heather.
You were there and I was not, so I defer.
Some of those hover flies can be pretty darn good mimics. I think it’s the prominent eyes in the photo of that insect that mainly had me questioning.
