I am a practitioner of the trout spey. I know most of the fish couldn’t care less, but a few take interest.

I love it, Spey casting is addicting. I use a 4wt and a SA integrated line most of the time in case I want to strip some line. Don’t catch quite as many fish as I used to but I have a lot more fun with it right now and don’t care about numbers.

I have zero interest in watching a bobber all day and my shoulder won't do the euro nymph salute all day so I'm either dry fly or swinging for trout. Big trout eat little trout, especially when there is a hatch and the little guys get excited. I don't catch as may fish but I do catch more big fish. Well worth the trade off.
I love my trout spey. I really love Echo's. I have a 4wt that is actually a 4wt. So fun to cast and play a small trout on it. I also have a 5wt spey from Echo that's a wonderful rod. With my broken up shoulder, with permanent damage, makes my day easier.

Do it. Find the meat eaters. If you've been traditionally single hand fishing, you just opened up a bunch of new water. Do your normal stuff on your normal water. Swing the swing stuff. Catch em all.
I have a 10.0 ft Beulah platinum switch rod... apparently not made anymore? I use it as much as any rod I own.
I did not think I would get into the swing thing. Once I got sorta decent at it (self taught hack), it became my favorite way to fish medium sized to larger rivers for trout.

I have a switch that I would like to trade for a micro Spey. The switch is just a bit too big.
Other than that, I only really swing with a single handed 6 wt and a sink tip. I do occasionally Spey cast with single hand rods, which works fine other then you don’t have the double hand grip

I’m in Montana so trout spey is 95% of my fishing. I got tired of watching drift boats with guided bobber clients catching all the fish on the far side of the river so this has upped my game quite a bit. Highly recommend, SH or DH, don’t think it matters to much if your accomplishing your goal of having fun.
Been to Montana once, years ago. My take away was the all the guide boats had bankers hours and it was mostly plunking bobbers since they were traveling speed of river. I prowled around the banks and had lots of great water to myself, especially in the evening. The North Platte was like that in WY too
Took we a bit to remember it. But my 6 wt switch is probably my favorite. Was given to me as a thank you for my work with PHWFF and is one of the rod that's with me for every trout fishing trip.

I rarely fish a single handed rod any more, and when I do, I am generally single hand spey casting anyway.
My new home river is the Kootenai a tailwater fishery with native red bands, cutthroat & bull trout here in NW Montana.
The minimum flow the dam allows is 1400 cfs, so it's got some size to it. I've earmarked some nice bars I'd like to swing with the trout spey.
