SFR AI imagining...it's fun!

Sorta fishing-related
Just assume everything you see on social media is false! Trust but verify! And know your sources.. is it someone you actually know.. do they stick to the truth.. this has gone on in one form or another throughout history! AI can fill the void if we let it, but it doesn't have too. Or cats chasing yarn, women dancing the "hot dance" move of the week.. the ice bath challenge! Yada, Yada, Yada!!
Heck, the major news sources have been propagating news filled with 1/2 truths and out-right lies for years now…
Ai has just refined it.

Nothing new here! Just more reason to verify anything you read on social media or hear on the news. People are lazy and will believe what they think they see.. it can be fun to mess with them though.. bad Bill!

Interesting thread for me. And I thank Evan B for his AI image of a fish in post #159...and for his wise words.
The OP was about having fun with AI imaging...obviously this is a complex discussion, especially when it comes to art, and the broader implications.
Just to be clear, I much preferred my Kodachrome 64.

But then came digital. Scan the "slide" for a few bucks..put the disk in your Mac....and go to work with your Photoshop 5. Clean it up, tweak the exposure, play with the color, sharpen the pixels, crop and done. Groundbreaking.. Almost no image could not be enhanced by Photoshop.
But now? AI changes everything in a much, more profound way. The original transparency film is no longer "needed" for a commercially generated image.
It's mind boggling, and yes, a human mind is steering AI, but that human mind can steer it much more efficiently with knowledge. Never heard of Rembrandt? Then you will never make this happen with AI. Just imagine if he had access to a Mac and AI ! unnamed-16.jpg

This thread is essentially worthless without lol cat videos...

Ok, going to "play" here just to make a bit of a point about why this tech doesn't excite me.

Here's a coho I got last October on the Columbia.

And here's a "remake" I had AI do for me telling it "take this photo and remake it into a similar but different shot." Crap, it might have an adipose fin 😇

So now we live in a time where someone could easily go in and make a fake trip report full of AI-generated photos, and it'd be believable for most. This sucks a lot of what makes a real photo, or piece of art, special and unique. Someone spent time and put in effort to take that photo and wanted to capture something that was special to them. With AI, you type in a few prompts and it spits something out that means nothing to anybody.

If anyone ever mistakes my trip reports for AI, they’ve got a horrible eye for AI.

Or do they… hi ChatGPT, can you create a picture of a coho on the beach…but, make sure the shot was taken at an awkward angle with sand and water on the lense. Make it out of focus, dark and nearly unrecognizable as a fish, let alone a coho. Maybe even add a pinky covering part of the lense for good measure….

Hmm, not bad on the first try ha. Has someone here been feeding ChatGPT my trip reports 🤣🤣

Or just stop using algorithmic social media. It's a net negative despite it giving the illusion there's still benefits there. I deleted it all almost 10yrs ago and have been far better off mentally. I've even stayed in better, more meaningful contact with friends and loved ones without it.
Been engaged with Face book since 2004 in order to keep in touch with my daughters across this country. In terms of its distortion of me and my apparently fauaulty judgement and sensibilities what it has done is expose, aggravate. Question everything, as I have since a young guy with reefer madness in college . So in conclusion I believe that exposure to argorythmic commercialized abuses and persuasion has strengthened me by keeping the enemy close. And enhance my willingness to share my own hybridized Bs with all who will consume it. If many do not I suggest I just might me getting some revenge without them knowing. Dates-1979 I was an analog designer, reprographics in house with a drafting table , and later like others working for large museum staffs adapted to adjust to the amazing scary world of computing. Reluctance but excited about it because I had to be for careers sake. Beta tester
Early on . I bridged the old ways to the new. Now I am barely functional with my Iphone . Hell just do not have a 7 year old to ask for help when I need it.
About 5 years

Yes it means nothing. What it does do is make many people misconstrue that the result is something they created. When true creativity is cultivated the experiential process opens humans to avenues of enhanced understanding. It is the thread that sews together.

Other than specific schools, FB opened to the public in 2006. I think I had it in 2005 because I was taking some classes at the time at one of the schools with early access. I had it until 2016/2017 (phase out and deleted in that time).

I think no matter how you use it, the human brain just doesn't have the bandwidth to deal with the firehose of information, both "good" and bad that comes with the algorithms. I could go on long rants about this, but I think the only GOOD amount of use for it is zero. There's plenty of other ways to stay in contact with friends and loved ones as I've re-learned since running away from it.

2004 was when I engaged the acquisition of my initial infection , primarily to get my art out there. As far as a timeline which is a very specific I do not concern myself with such things. I like to make stuff up.

I’m wondering if the new Dos Equis commercials feature the original actor (who had to spend some time in jail for tax evasion), or is it Ai?…Stay Thirsty My Friends…

There's a lot of information regarding social media algorithms around, the engagement loops, and negative effects on mental health.
Understanding how those algorithms work, their intent, and how they work on your brain makes for interesting reading.
An algorithm is simply a set of instructions that is designed to accomplish a task...the task on social media sites s to keep you on their respective platforms as long as possible.
It's not in your best interest, but theirs.

The algorithms are extremely effective at convincing people there's no other way to stay in contact with the people they care about. Also effective at convincing people to stay connected to people they otherwise have no real relationship with (parasocial relationships). I feel like most of what people fear losing are those parasocial relationships or connections to somewhat interesting people they met one time and started following.

I still see derived positivity with the way I interact with. This discussion will continue forever . We derive what we wish to based on our adaptation to the commercial manipulation. It also trains people most in need to question before acceptance which also can be a negative. Where else can you purposefully argue with Meta AI! Which I find utterly awful, yet intriguing when I observe just what kind of queries are recorded. Yes some are purposefully playful others expose some inhumanness. The learning curve exposes the sheer breadth of the wonders of the block feature on someones page . And the fascinating fantasy of having 2500 friends you know nothing about until somehow you learn how they annoy you. Golly Facebook is a training ground to enhance ones grumpy old man skills!

One of the more pernicious aspects in that 'parasocial' realm is the rise of the 'influencers', especially in the political and issue advocacy realm.
Many (most) are paid by entities unknown to users, and their content is prepared in large part by the funders, then transmitted by the'face'...somebody earnestly giving their views, solutions to problems, reasons why this is bad, this is good etc... but really just spouting the 'line' their funders want out there.
The corrosive nature of social media in this sphere is particularly evident.

While I find the algorithms and news feeds annoying as fuck, I just ignore most of it and go to what I want. I am a member of a fair number of private groups and use Facebook to augment real relationships and keep track of some people who I don't see all that often.

I look forward to the day when FB and Instagram are replaced with hopefully something better. Not optimistic on it being better, just different.

I have been teaching myself AI for a while now and am close to an expert in it. Images, using it to create and edit existing documents and even have used AI to create a framework for a book I'm writing about the past 2 years with my mom and own issues.

So these tools, are just that. Have I gotten wrapped up in them in the past, hell yes, but I don't intend to as much anymore.
