Bad cold or something viral

A few years back I had a cold but felt well enough to sit at the bench and tie some flies. Then while using both hands to carefully wrap a hackle, I sneezed creating a chaos of feathers flying all over the place. I suppose I could have been a little neater with my materials or even wore a mask but it was a hilarious lesson at the time. Now I just stay away from the vise until well. Lesson learned.
Now that's funny!!

Washing hands is great and all but it doesn't help even a little bit with preventing respiratory viruses, which are airborne.
Flu and other nasty viruses are pretty robust-aka persist on surfaces, and door knobs. COVID was different by being surface ‘light’ and defo thru the air only. Flu, measles, and norovirus to name the common ones are tough bastards and persist on surfaces for a good while. I got odd looks at the Edgewater hotel in Seattle the other day having a piece of paper opening the door back out of the bathroom…as a microbiologist we always joked wash your hands before you went to the bathroom.

PBR cough syrup? Or just plain Ole whiskey?

Had bloodwork done for the free annual 'wellness visit' our primary care doc provides each year per Medicare. Wife the nurse, who stays on top of area health issues, said with all the indicators spiking not to forget my mask when I was heading to the clinic. Walked into the lab/x-ray waiting area with N95 on and spent the next half hour waiting my turn listening to folks coughing their lungs up.
When I saw my physician for the visit last week, both he and his assistant were wearing masks. She's pregnant and my doc's wife is pregnant as well, so their trying their best to stay healthy amidst what he called an onslaught of respiratory flu patients. So are we.

Whatever this flu variant is sweeping through the region right now, it's nasty and it's quick. People with school aged kids should watch them closely, as it can hit them hard and quick.

Abby was down for 3 days, and we had to be careful what we could feed her or it came right back up, or right back "out". As of this morning , fever is abated to just above normal, and she's ravenous..

Kay surprised me, actually got up, showered, and, wearing a mask, has gone for the weekly grocery run. When I tucked her in Friday night, she was a mess.

So we took the usual precautions, added in some Thera flu teas and plenty fluids and so far it seems to be working.

Some friends came down with the bug and have been ill for over a week.
My wife and I take C and Zinc supplements daily. I have had a nasal drip and occasional minor coughing with a little clear phlegm for a couple of weeks. My wife had a couple days of squeaky voice and a bad headache. We thought it might be allergy-related from our lot budding out but pollen count is still low. I am going to bump up my C to 2 grams for a few days and see if it improves.

Thanks guys. Always nice to have place to vent

Well my cold / flu has been getting better, but my back has been killing me. I'm sleeping a lot, went to bed super early last night, but must be coughing all night and hard enough it's been causing my bad back to spasm! Once I get up and moving, it's better, but sucks big time. I've been using a cane in the morning so I don't fall over.. seriously!

Anyway, on the mend and seeing my PCP tomorrow to make sure nothing else is going on.. just one thing after another! Planning on fishing the Yakima on Friday, if I feel good enough. Appointments tomorrow through Thursday, so I could go in the afternoon, but don't want to push it too much! Cheers!

The whole family got Flu A last week, do not recommend. We get the flu shot every year, but supposedly A is the strain that mutates most frequently.
I thought I had read that they had mis-guessed the strains for the shot this year as well.
