Snow Shred Season 2025 - 2026

Was in Mammoth last week. Snow was only 5ft base to 7ft at top but did not see any brown on runs with near 100% open. We were completely surprised by awesome April weather but cold hard pack snow of great quality. I suspect freshwater stream fishing is going to have to be done early this season.

We were in Mammoth then too, for the high school Nordic races and the Allan Bard Classic. My wife and son skiied the hill on Saturday and said the same as you. Skiied my Local yesterday (sugar bowl) and it needs to snow. My son’s rail line in our yard has a lot of dirt and rocks but he is still after it. Looks like it may snow here (truckee ca) next week. Fingers crossed.

The boys and I got wet today. It's supposed to start tonight snowing harder with better temps tonight, then keep going all week.

Shot of me from the blog. No lift lines, and no one skis the runs I like. I still ski Wedeln and this run is just sweet. Peaceful easy swinging.

Got up to sugerbowl early. 20 degrees and 21” new reported. Snowed another 12-14 while I waited and then got the won’t open call. 🀯

I likely joined the ACL club the other day up in Canada. Of all the things I've done on snow this was probably the lamest, most benign thing I can think of to take me out: skiing with kiddos in the pinky park at the literal very bottom of Sun Peaks, literally meters from my hotel. I didn't even crash; just landed funny in slush and felt that dreaded crunch. X-ray shows a Segond fracture which generally has an associated ACL tear. MRI back home will tell the tale.

A bummer for sure but I get to switch gears and focus on rest, rehab, pt, and so forth. Still breathing so it could have been worse.

Life goes on!

9" of really heavy, wet, new snow. No trees today, too much wind also. Can always tell my sets, 3 turns to everyone else's one. Called it at half day as my legs were burning and I didn’t want fall and hurt myself:)

Today was not good. Drove up to the pass and it was 34 degrees in the parking lot. Temperature on top 32. BIL was on the way up from his place near Cle Elum, probably 15 minutes behind us. He texted that a tree had fallen across the highway down below. He turned around and headed home to their place. That was a good thing because there was 14 inches of snow on the ground when he got home and the power was out. My friend I went into the lodge to have some coffee and let them clear the tree, but then we saw the pass was closing for avalanche assessment so we left right away. Didn’t want to get stuck on top of the pass. We had to wait a short time for them to cut the tree and open the highway. They were still doing avalanche control in the ski area boundary as we were leaving and this was the lift line. Tuesday was a great day with temperatures in the mid-20s and 6 to 8 inches of fresh powder and sunshine in the afternoon. Chased powder all day until my legs started to protest after lunch and finished the day on the groomers.

Saw a rock the size of the Palisade in the opposite lane coming down from bluewood today. A bunch of small slides, couple trees and limbs, and LOTS OF WATER over the road.
The modern ski gear is amazing. Even though I seemed soaked, my base layer was dry and I was warm. Got wet, but made out ok.
